Finally Saw Avatar...

and hated it.  It is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.  Really!  My tolerance for mediocre movies is pretty high.  Most scifi and action are watchable for me.  But this one worked my nerves.  The storyline was derivative and extremely cheesy.  All the characters were overly simplistic.  The acting was terrible.  I had to turn off the movie half way through because I couldn't stand it.  The next morning, I suffered my way through it just to say that I had watched the whole thing before I passed judgment.

When I began the film, I had a pretty open mind.  Didn't expect anything good or bad, only a movie.  Please, say that someone else felt the same about this movie.

As for James Cameron, he can and has done much better work.  I absolutely love Titanic , the Terminator movies and Abyss.  What's with this one?  8 years and $400 million and this best he can do.

I was so happy this movie didn't win anything other than an effects award at the Oscars. I know I'll hate it. I can't stand big budget films like this!

I haven't seen it cuz I'm boycotting it, but here's my problem with it - isn't the movie supposed to have an underlying theme of how we are destroying the rainforest and native peoples and all that?  So, did any of those billions of dollars they made off it go towards stopping any of that?

I didn't think so.

I haven't seen it, I'll confess, but I don't think I will. Partly because, well, anyone I respect says basically what you've said. Some have seen the 3D and said, well yes, the colours etc. were pretty to look at, but...meh.
Also, the day it hit theatres here was the day it also came out on DVD in the stores. So it just seemed to me like "make as much money as possible as quickly as possible." Everyone hyped it for...about 3 weeks. Then not another word. Gone.

I finally saw it.  While I certainly don't think it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen,  I don't understand why it made a gazillion dollars.

I thought the forest scenese were stunning, and wish I'd seen it in 3D, but otherwise just a run of the mill movie for me.

Yeah, I agree...this movie did have underlying themes of being better to mankind, nature, native peoples... Did it help any of them? No! It inspired me to be more proactive in the kind things I do but I totally think James Cameron or the studios should use some of their billion dollar profits to help these causes.

I saw it in 3D and still didn't care for it.

I do like simplistic movies though without much thinking required... I just want to sit back and enjoy a movie without trying to figure out what the hell is going on... My job requires way too much brain power as it is... My brain hurts after a long work week =/

I just don't like the premise - white guy comes to save the natives who can't save themselves. That's why I haven't seen it...
