Do I buy cruelty products for a xmas gift?

For Christmas my dad really wants heavy socks and all of the hunting socks (which seem the best at keeping his feet warm) contain wool and some even contain Merino wool which is very bothersome to me if I buy it because I saw a video that pink did for peta about the Merino lambs.  Do I buy these socks feeling bothered, yet happy that my dad's needs will be met?  Or does anyone know any heavy duty winter socks that are vegan? Help!

tough call.
now i'm wondering if the thick socks i'm wearing right now might have wool in them..
i honestly never thought of it, but now it seems obvious. i hate that!

hmmm... it is up to you, but i personally wouldn't. i know there is a thread that talks about a wool alternative somewhere on VW..

aha... http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=18977.0

that might help... also, someone said they were making fleece socks, that might work?

get him something besides socks?

Some good Dad gifts: favorite sports teams' crap, movies, favorite tv show DVD, (take him to a movie?), favorite candy/food you can make him, random tool/yard stuff he needs, gift cards to: sports stores (can he get the socks he wants at a store like this?) & home improvement stores, picture frames with pictures of you together in them, photo calendars, books, magazine subscriptions, technology stuff like:universal remotes!, badass watches, those digital picture frames, music-y stuff; slippers, clothing items http://www.firststreetonline.com/product.jsp?id=47178,  car shit, swiss army knife, wallet

Oh Yea! Gift card is a great idea! Or if he need something to keep his feet warm they make those heated shoe inserts you can buy too!

How about these: Wild Thangs Polartec fleece socks.  They are made of recycled polyester in the USA.

Yeah, that idea above me is good, and so is Capture's heated inserts for your shoes!

If a gift is really coming from you, then it wouldn't be anything with wool in it, seeing as you are so upset by the Merino lambs.  I would either get him some of the lovely suggestions above, or something else entirely different, but from your heart.  If he asks what about the socks, playfully say 'Yeah, like I of all people would get you something that will help you when you're hunting!'

ive been doing tons of research about thermals stuff cus im in major need of some.. get under armour brand socks!  you can get them online or at outdoorsy stores like cabelas.  make sure you get the 'cold gear' style thats meant for winter.  they also sell long underwear, shirts, hats, etc and theres no wool in them!

my friend makes Hippie clothes, and she just started using hemp hiking socks. I have a pair and they are FANTASTIC. They are so soft and so warm, I LOVE mine.

I agre the gift card is a good guiltless idea.

just wanted to say that not all the socks they make are wool-free, so be sure to check the specs.

if you could find a pair secondhand, would you mind buying them then?

I agree with the others.  It is better to just find an alternative gift that he will like so you won't have to compromise your morals.
And how much would it rock if you found non-wool socks that were just as warm?  ;D
I would really look into the awesome ideas everyone posted.
