Dear Admins:

Would someone please, pretty please, answer my question about the veganness of the angel food cake on the July 4th tab.  As I understood in the VegNews apology letter, no more non-vegan stock images would be used in the mag or on the VN site.

So, does this NOT include Vegweb photos?

If the photo is vegan, is there a recipe?

I feel like you'd get a response if you email Laura about it and asked if she knew the recipe and/if it was vegan.

I will pass on your question.

I feel like you'd get a response if you email Laura about it and asked if she knew the recipe and/if it was vegan.

I feel like she'd get a bullshit response/apology like the one VN issued initially. We know it's not vegan. That's not the point of this thread.

Yep, the point is public accountability.

I don't know if everyone knows this - you can drag an image to the Google Image search bar and Google will find the image for you on the web.  It's an interesting exercise.

really? I feel like I live in the future.

OMG I do live in the future.  That is so so so clever!!

BTW - yeah stock photo, found on lots of websites, if anyone else is interested.

Now........what else can I search!

That's still not the point of this post though...

Still no public reply?  Nice...

I believe in miracles; however I know you won't get a public reply. Not that I don't think they should man up, because I do.

That's still not the point of this post though...

If people want to source stock photos used on vw and voice content concerns, being able to search such photos is directly relevant.

Other than that, I'm staying out of this one.

HH,

Thank you for the Google tip.  I have been having waaaay too much fun with it.

So using hh's Google image finder trick, that burger in the 4th of July tab is a tuna burger?  WTF?

After ALL of that publicity and negative press they're STILL using stock images???  (And after a post like this they are STILL there?)  The images are totally unnecessary for the tab anyway.  Who thinks of shortcake when they think of the 4th of July?

Hi All!

Sorry I didn't responded sooner -- I was on vacation (eating all the vegan food in Russia and Greece!) and when I got back, I had a killer flu that kept me out of commission until now. Just wanted you to know, you weren't being ignored, and I apologize for the wait!

The image is from before and it doesn't specify on the stock photo whether it's vegan or not vegan or if the whipped cream is actually shaving cream or reduced fat mayo or styrofoam (common things used in stock photography! crazy!), so I hope it wasn't directly offensive. I'm super sorry it wasn't specifically vegan, though, and it's been replaced with a photo that is! The burger, however, is one I found personally, and I believed it to be a veggie burger. Here it is: http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-13932151-veggie-burger.php?st=cb6a638 greenT, I'd love to know where it showed up as a tuna burger, because I'd be realllllly bummed if it were!

I just wanted to say that VegWeb (with the exception of headers and other promo stuff) has always been and will always be 100% user submitted shots of the recipes. Sometimes we need higher res photos for crystal clear web and print ads/content and we're now using specifically vegan things, so rest assured, everything is on the up and up, and if you have any questions, feel free to post them here and I'll get back to you ASAP, now that I can breathe and sit up right! Thank goodness for ester C and zinc in massive quantities!

Best,
Laura

You guys should really just hire Keda already!  :)

Keda's photos are amazing! She should definitely submit to http://veganstockphoto.com/! I know VegNews is working on all sorts of stuff -- from vegan stock photography to working with vegan photographers. Woo!

The same image appears as a tuna burger here:
http://www.womenshealthsa.co.za/nutrition/recipes/healthy-tuna-burgers-with-herb-mayonnaise-recipe

the photo used on the BBQ page results in this popping up in google images, but using the stock photo, it's only the other vegan recipes and websites. I'm guessing that the people behind the tuna burger recipe just used the same stock photo, but not a photo of the actual product.

Phew! Thanks, faunablues! I did some research just now and found the same thing. I think they were just using the best looking burger they could find and it was a veggie burger!
