baby vaccinations
Ok I have an 11 month old baby girl and she is very healthy and has had no health problems at all. Me and my girlfriend have decided not to get her vaccinated as we have heard and read lots of negative things about vaccinations, and some of them we just find completely unnecessary anyways. Why would we want to put dangerous chemicals in our daughters body just to prevent a week of chicken pox? We have also read plenty of other arguments about how vaccinations are better good than bad, but it's just hard to know whats what. Well, when we go to the doctor and they try to give her shots and we tell them no, the nurses act like we are insane.
Has anyone else chose not to vaccinate? I would like to hear some opinions from fellow vegans/vegetarians about what they think. And please no one just say "you are terrible parents and your babies life is in danger." I just don't trust putting chemicals like that into my daughters body, especially ones like H1N1, of which i am highly suspect anyways and personally think is bullshit. Some day down the road if there are vaccinations that I feel have more positives than negatives, we may get those, but things like dtap and mmr just don't seem worth risking the damage they may do to her body.
After reading the book "Balto" about the Diptheria outbreak in Nome in 1925, I chose to have my son vaccinated, at least for the really big stuff, like Diptheria!
Diptheria attacks the throat, starts out as a cough and a sore throat, then the throat scabs up, and eventually it strangles the child to DEATH!
No, I don't want my son getting that. I cried when I read it, the way the book described the look of terror in the child's eyes as he looked at the doctor, pleading for help but the doctor could do nothing as the child died... and it is a true story.
I have to quit, I am going to start crying again. I am for vaccinations. I don't care, I don't want my son to get diptheria!!!!!!
We are choosing to vaccinate on a delayed schedule. I personally think that the regular schedule is too many too soon. I am picking and choosing, and waiting to do many of them until he is 4.
Some visits it is recommended that he get 4 shots at once, which I think is too many. I won't do more than 2 at a time, if that.
He is just so little...not even 20 pounds yet. I don't want all those chemicals and crap in his little body so soon.
My doctor is actually cool with this, and is letting me come at times just to see the nurse (not pay a co-pay) to get the shot separately (as to not have so many at one visit).

L2A, Lyle isn't even 20 lbs yet!!!!???? How much was he when he was born?
Wow, isn't he a couple of months older than my little guy? Mikey is 16 mo old and he is 21 lbs now. Mikey was 6lbs, 0oz when he was born.
As far as the multiple shots at once, I agree. When Mikey had his first doctor's visit when he was 1 mo old, they gave him 5 shots.

He screamed and screamed and I cried cried and just about punched the doctor out. It was the wierdest feeling, I fet overwhelming anger that he was hurting my son and I felt this panic setting in and I was getting very angry and almost lost it. I rarely get so mad that my self control breaks down and logical thought leaves me, it has only happened once or twice in my entire life and it came close to happening that day. I was so protective of him when he was a newborn.
But it was horrible, and he got sick for a day, had a low grade fever and couldn't hardly move, and I spent all evening crying too. I don't like to think about it.
He is due for his 1 year, and 15 mo shots now, but I am really hesitant to take him in because I hate him getting shots. I feel like I am betraying him when he gets them. The daycare hasn't said anything about it, as when I enrolled him in daycare he was up-to-date at that time. I don't want to do it...
I suggest delaying some...and not getting so many at once.
2 is my max per visit. 5 shots seems like a lot of chemicals to get at once....but I know that's what they recommend!
Lyle is tiny. I am tiny. At age 2, I only weighed 20, so at least he is bigger than I was! He is 18 months and about 19 pounds. He is proportioned very well!
The doctor finally stopped making a big deal about it. She ran every test possible and everything came up perfectly-including his iron and protein counts. He was talking to her in the visit and very active, so she realized he was on developmentally as well.
Noah went through the same run around when he was a baby. He is tiny too (3rd grade and about 48 pounds). Kidney tests, etc....and nothing wrong.
I hover around 100-105, so I did not expect to have large children. DH is 5-9 and about 160, so he isn't huge either. There's not much you can do about genetics and the size of your children. Personally, I think everyone else is too big and we are just right! :)

I have to say this: every time I see the name of this thread it reads more like a vaccine against babies, not vaccines for babies. It's like how you'd say "Hepatitis B vaccine" and "baby vaccine." I'm sorry, it's just the thought of being vaccinated against this flock of attacking babies makes me laugh out loud.

I chose not to vaccinate. My two kids are now 4 and 7 and very healthy. I did extensive research from many sources and different perspectives. I live in Canada, so I didn't need any exemption forms. Even if a daycare says vaccines are required, all that needs to be done is to write a note stating that I know the risks, (and benefits ;) ). I feel comfortable with the choices I have made. It was the obvious choice for me to make, for others, it may be a different one. I respect that. Now I am going to sleep.

I'll add that to the list of reasons Canada kicks our ass in every way. What? Your government allows you to think for yourself AND you have universal healthcare??? Crazy.
I would choose to vaccinate my children. Since things like thimerosal and mercury have been thrown out scientists are becoming more and more interested in each component of the vaccine. I don't believe that every child who is not vaccinated will get sick, just as not every child whos gets sick has been vaccinated; but they are there for us because we are susceptible to some horrific diseases. I know some people are saying there is still mercury in some vaccinations and I don't know where they're getting this. Even the presence of a small amount of mercury wouldn't be put into vaccinations and hasn't for some time.

aggplanta we think allike. The H1N1 comes in a nasal spray form that is thimersal/mercury free. Research can be hard to read without training, but many people seem to be equating google-research with real, scientific research. A google-search does not an expert make. We all do it, and it gets information out there, but I wouldn't base a serious decision like my child's health on it! I vaccinated my child, and it was scary because its all hyped up, but she is fine and I have the peace of mind that she is safer.
Congrats!! I think you chose the right choice. Your baby has everything she needs to be healthy from her mother's nutrition and from a vegan lifestyle. I am against vaccinations. They said I had to be vaccinated to go to school...I always got sick after vaccinations. My cousins are almost amish and they are against vaccinations and chose not to vaccinate their 8 children. They are all well. I knew a couple whose child died from a vaccine. So sad. Anywhoo...KUDOS! ;)b
