your favorite cities and why?

i wanted to title this thread "3 favorites cities..." but there's too many too chose from.

#1 - Nashville.  There's just something about the charm in Nashville.  It makes no sense from a vegan/vegetarian perspective.  While i never went hungry there, for sure - it's certainly not a "veggie" friendly city.  But Nashville is beautiful, rolling green hills, bright blue skies - when it rains though - it's awesome...Nashville gets killer thunder storms (sometimes literally :() and it rains there like i've not seen rain anywhere before (it can get almost torrential).

Nashville has a beautiful parks system with a vibrant downtown area - albeit a bit sketchy at times.

This city has lots of nature - you can go to Radnor Lake or Warner Park and get lost in hiking while you're still within the city limits of Nashville. You can go to Percy Priest Lake, on a weekend afternoon - and still grab a quiet spot and watch the ducks on the water.

Another great facet to Nashville is it's centrally located to many other big cities so that you could visit Atlanta one day, the Smokey Mountains another day, Chattanooga another day, Memphis..., St. Louis...etc.

It's like i told my gf, Nashville is the "bad for me city that I can't help but love".  She's jealous :P because i love Nashville more then Seattle.  I told her that i do love Seattle, but i'm not in love with it - we don't have that kind of relationship whereas Nashville and I are ummm intimate bwah ha haha

#2 - Baltimore
.  A lot of people might scoff at this because Baltimore doesn't have the best reputation.  In all fairness - the only part that I've seen is the Inner Harbour and i can't get enough.  I love the tranquility of Chesapeake Bay while at the same time enjoying the hustle and bustle.  They have museums, shops, major sporting events - all in that area.

#3 - Chicago - walking along Lake Michigan (where the "Married W/Children" Fountain is) is so majestic and vibrant at the same time.  To see that expansive body of water while having the excitement of the city only moments away.  Navy Pier is awesome.  I love just walking around downtown and crossing the varied bridges that traverse the various rivers that run through downtown Chicago (who knew!).

#4 - Brooklyn - seeing as how this is my hometown, i have to give it some love.  There's endless activities, history, beauty - all to be found in Brooklyn and of course, NYC.  I would never choose to move back there but i'm proud to say that i'm from there.

#5 - Seattle - it has everything and although i'm not "crushing" on it like i should - i can appreciate Seattle for what she is.  It's like the vegan mecca of the U.S.  Within an hour or so drive there's everything you can imagine, mountains, lakes, rivers, rainforest.  Seattle is a very intriguing blend of small city mentality but wanting to be a big city.  A further blend of urban mixed in with nature.

I really appreciate Seattle for it's liberal leanings - people really don't trouble anyhow out here - it's so much of a live and let live type of city.

I've got more cities even, but i'll curb my list for now :)

Gainesville, Florida - Because i dont get away much, it has UF, the best healthfood stores i've ever been to, amazing atmosphere, and a rad music scene. And the people there rock. (cant really find a great picture..)

Sarasota, Florida - Its the city next to mine, the one with vegan restaurants, whole foods, health food stores (i've only been to one restaurant and 2 of the hfs's though), it has great shopping and things to do everywhere. Downtown is amazing. And its where i grew up.

I havent really been anywhere long enough to make anything my favorite, or one of my favorites besides ones here.

copenhagen denmark is my absolute favorite city.  i lived here for 2 months during my student teaching and loved it.  i loved all of the pedestrian walkways:

This thread is giving me some SERIOUS wanderlust...

I've never been to half these places and now I SOOOO want to go to Nashville...who would have thought!? Well, not me. Anyway, it's on the list now.

I think my favorite cities are beyond cliched, San Francisco and New York City. Oh and my best friend recently moved to Chicago and I've grown quite fond of that city...the vegan eating is GOOOOOD, the people are friendly but still sassy and the architecture makes me want to do unnatural things to buildings. Gross! But still...beauuuuuutiful!

Okay, I'll throw one unexpected in...what about Las Vegas? It's the one of the only places on earth that celebrates trashy excess AND there are a couple all vegetarian restaurants, an enormous Whole Foods with a vegan salad bar and daiya cheese pizzas AND a donut shop with vegan cream filled donuts! I could lay out by the pool at the Belagio with some champagne and a vegan eclair and be happy for quite some days. After that, I want to take a hot shower and get back to San Francisco as fast as possible!

Oh, one more and this is kinda of obvious too but PORTLAND! Portland is like Seattle but I like the vibe more. More friendly and more vegan eating than you can shake a stick at. I love how public transportation friendly and green it is...you're close to the amazing Oregon coast line and not TOO terribly far from SF and Seattle. Plus, there are bars in Portland that are all vegan! Vegan nachos and a beer? Yes, please!

It is a town, not a city, but Ithaca, New York has a very dear place in my heart.  It's one of my favorite places ever.  Very vegan-friendly, awesome farmers market, lots of waterfalls and gorges, beautiful scenery, good transportation, and people are very open-minded.  And my university is there!  I love it and miss it so much.

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge in Tennessee at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains (which is, by the way - the most visited national park in the whole country).

This area is a mixture of extreme corny-ness and sheer child like carefree jubilation.  You can visit the "country" stores and buy locally made jams (you've never tasted anything so good), you can visit a haunted mansion or two, take a sky lift up to the mountain, visit the Ripley's Aquarium, Ripley's Believe it Or Not, Ripley Motion Master - in 3D, Guiness Book of World Records, take in a show - the list is really endless ...

and oh, it's also the #2 destination for eloping couples (they have beautiful chalets up in the mountains for a great honeymoon get-away)

and ooh ooh ooh, don't even get me started about how beautiful they decorate for Christmas Time, it's like a Christmas Wonderland (and is known for the same..)

Dollywood...

tons of outlet shopping...

VANCOUVER BC CANADA!!!!!!!! Even just all of British Columbia. I love this place. Vancouver's got city, mountains, trees, oceans, music, beaches, and lots and lots of vegan/vegetarian food. It's been voted the most vegan-friendly city in Canada. Looooove Canada......gorgeous.

BARCELONA is definitely worth mentioning. Beautiful old town, lots of art, beaches.... Spain is a beautiful country but it is obsessed with ham. Barcelona, however, seems to be the vegan/vegetarian centre of Spain. They've got some SERIOUSLY delicious restaurants there.

I've been to pigeon forge! We went to the comedy barn and black bear jamboree there, and to the smokey mountain knife works. It was just while driving through, so we stayed there one night. But it seemed like a really cool place!

These aren't in any particular order...

1) San Francisco - because...it's San Francisco!  :)>>> The vegan restaurants, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, endless places to run, awesome weather, great architecture....I just love it!

2) Amsterdam - it's just a crazy cool place. You just have to experience it. The canals, the cafes, the bicycles everywhere, all the great ethnic food...it's fantastic. It's arty, it's romantic, it's sensual, it's just awesome!

3) Paris - I'm a Francophile so I loved Paris! I love the culture, the food, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Champs-Elysees...I went there on my honeymoon and then again a year later. It's magical!

4) Sedona, AZ - I dream about moving there everyday. What can I say - it has a fabulous veggie restaurant (D'Lish Very Vegetarian), INCREDIBLE scenery, fabulous hiking opportunities, the most incredible weather...it's just gorgeous. It's paradise on Earth!

5) Washington, DC - I love the museums, the landmarks, the great restaurants, and the fact that you can walk everywhere and never get bored.

I live near Seattle!  Never been to any other city besides portland, oregon various small towns.  I was talking to a guy from the Bronx and he was telling me how small seattle is even though I consider it huge.  My mom says that veggies are accepted better here than anywhere else she's ever traveled to, and she talks about how non-conservative we are, usually referring to our views on gay rights and how casually we dress.  Lol, I personally laugh at the commercials from national insurance companies advertising specifically to Washington where everyone is wearing a collared shirt.

Portland is okay.  I was only there for a couple days so I can't say much about it.  They have a vegan mini mall there, which is pretty awesome.http://www.portlandtribune.com/news/story.php?story_id=119843159322144800
