Texas state fair - any veg food?

I'm just going to go ahead and assume a big fat NO, but I know there are some other Texans on here and just wanted to check - has anyone found anything vegan at the State Fair of Texas?

I'm going tonight - we're eating ahead, but it would be fun to be able to eat something when everyone else is... I'm even afraid of the vegetables, though, and  I can't find any ingredient info anywhere.  :-\

i'm in texas, but i havent heard of the state fair.  wheres it at?

Heh, at the Minnesota State Fair, they had Scotch Eggs (hard-boiled eggs wrapped in sausage, wrapped in bread crumbs, deep-fat fried, served with Ranch Dressing).

Not that I went.

Did you find anything besides pickes and hot sauce?

The Texas state fair is in Dallas.

We found corn on the cob (you have to ask them not to dip it in butter) and lemonade; there are also pickles, Lemon Chill, and I guess the pretzels and french fries might be vegan, hard to say.

I know this is really gross, but... I actually tasted a fried oreo.  My husband thinks it could be vegan, but I'm not as into blind optimism.  They also have fried banana splits, fried ice cream, fried coke (don't ask - I don't know how it's possible either), fried jelly belly, chicken fried bacon, fried moon pies, fried s'mores, fried green beans, fried Snickers, and so on.

This could just be myth/legend because my family's from Dallas, but I've always been told the corn dog originated at the Texas state fair.  Apparently, they're going to fry every other food on earth until something's equally successful.

fried green beans are awesome. So are fried asparagus!

Deep frying anything is worth it. Yes, I'm a fat ass.

i dont know about corn dogs, but i do know that french fries were invented in paris texas and they got the name french fries at the state fair because people thought they were from paris france, not paris texas.  yup.  so suck on that freedom fries.

ok.  so maybe i dont know this.  but michael told me.  so i hope that he is right.

and fried oreos are amazing.

I know... but they can't be vegan, right?  I'm guessing they're probably fried in lard - isn't it cheapest?  Maybe even battered in milkstuff first?  I don't know.  I'm not even sure how I let myself get talked into eating it.  I felt so bad about it today.  :-[  I'd stop hanging out with such an ignorance-is-bliss vegan, but I married one, so...

Deep fried stuffs are usually fried in hydrogenated soybean oil (the cheapest). The batter I would guess had egg in it, but you never know!~

from recipes ive seen (my bro once made us deep fried snicker bars a la mode for dessert in my pregan days) they use a pancake type batter, which probably does have at least milk in it.  but as we all know if you make it at home you can easily make a vegan batter.

so who's gonna get on this deep fried coke thing?  sb?  ;)b

hahahahaha, I do love deep fried anything. I might nominate myself to eventually tackle this. Expect a recipe out of me some time within the next year.
