Subway...

I usually don't post in forums, but this topic infuriated me so much that I had to let everyone know what has happened.

A little information, I have been vegan for about 9 months and before turning vegan had gone to numerous fast food restaurants. Obviously, turning vegan has limited my options immensely, but I have found a few chains, that I can for the most part trust. Subway is one of those options.  Over the past few months, I have noticed that the 3-4 subways in my area have stopped carrying carrots and spinach, which we all know both provide valuable nutrients to both vegans and omnis alike.  Also, when ordering a veggie sandwich, I had to ask 3-4 times to get an appropriate amount of veggies to make up for the lack of meat.  They employees seemed almost defensive for being bothered with a nonmeat eater's request.  Upon inquiry to the loss of my favorite veggies, I was told that they stopped carrying them.  I decided to take action and email the company directly, telling them why having more vegetables is obviously a healtier option, something that Subway has been claiming for years.  I urged my friends and family to also take action and let Subway know that these veggies needed to be brought back.  Today, my mother received this generic response from the company, basically saying to suck it up...

"Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding  one of the items offered at
SUBWAYR restaurant.

In order to consistently provide satisfaction to our customers by offering
high quality food with exceptional service that is a good value, we must
continuously review our menu and the ingredients that we use.

Occasionally, we find that some items are not popular, some have declined in
overall popularity, some are in short supply or are difficult to work with.
In order for us to make room on our menu and in our restaurants for new and
exciting foods, we must sometimes choose to not offer or discontinue items
from the national menu. Some locations may continue to offer discontinued
items as a local item.

We understand that this sometimes makes a customer's favorite food
unavailable. Please be assured that there are still many other great tasting
items at your local SUBWAYR restaurant. Perhaps one of them may be your new
favorite.

I apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate you taking the time to
contact us.  SUBWAYR looks forward to your continued visits."

I would just like to urge everyone to take a stand against Subway and let them know that we will not tolerate their other "new and exciting foods".

Thanks for listening.

Florida subways should have avocado :( Hmmphh.
Or like, oranges? Just so we can be all like, WE HAVE ORANGES YOU DONT. Even though that would be freaking weird on a sub (well you could make one that was good i'm sure, but not how i like my subs)

True that, but we need something cool in our subways.

Oh my goodness, it would be so awesome if like every state had a different topping that represents the state <3 Like maine could have lobster (not vegan! but its all i can think of), fl - oranges, cali - avo.....blah blah. i want that now. And i can go to all the states and get cool subs.

I guess we just have a really awesome "Subway" in our city  :).  They always LOAD IT UP with veggies!  I usually have so many on it, that they fall out, and I could make a salad out of them  :)>>>.  I get all of the veggies (except jalapenos), with extra spinach, olives, cucumber, and avocado...........oh it is so good  ;)b.  Great...now I'm hungry  ;)......

Yes, CK. Vidalia onion sounds so much better than a peach sub. Maybe GA subway could have a vegan peach smoothie to wash it down? I want a smoothie now...

Mmmmm, vidalia onions, regular onions, and sweet onion sauce on onion focaccia bread.
::)

And the smoothie idea sounds awesome.  Maybe they could make some GA peanut butter cookies, too.

My Subway (in IL) had avocado!!! It was an extra fifty cents but I got it anyway and while the lady was making the sandwich, I was thinking "ohhhh I have to tell the vegans!" It was yummy.

This may have been posted already or may not have, when I was in a subway about 2 years ago, when I was vegetarian (then turned to veganism, still a vegan after a year) they used the same stuff for meat and vegetables, which to me is gross.

I don't tend to eat out much for this reason.

I don't eat at subway or pretty much any 'faster/fast food' type place.

Anything you get their is probably not vegan because people who make the subs don't change their gloves when switching from meat and veggies, and I've seen meat dropped into the lettuce and into the pickles.

I worked at Panera Bread which is supposed to be upper-class faster food and it was horrible. I worked on salads. We didn't have scoops and had to pick everything up with our gloves. So for like the cobb salad we would grab in this specific order (all with the same gloves) lettuce, egg, bacon, tomatoes (so all the gunk washed off into the tomato juice), onion, and ... I forget the last veggie.
I wanted to change gloves between touching meats and veggies and they flat out told me 'NO' that would take too much time to do and people need to have their meals in less that 5 minutes.
And I also saw a ton of people get salads specifically without meat but the workers would accidentally put it on. But instead of making a new salad, they were told to just 'remove the meat and give it to them' so there were meat juices on it!
I was appalled and quit. But I'm sure it's no different where ever you go. Most places aren't into quality or detail, they just want their cheap products whored out as quickly as possible.

It's cheaper and safer just to buy your own ingredients and put it together yourself. And subs wrap and keep well.

well, it's been quite a while since I've been in a Subway, but I'm fairly certain NO Subway in New Zealand has ever offered avocado. I freakin' looooove avocado. hmmprh.  You guys are just too lucky, you know? ; )

They do... but not as we know it. It isn't slices, it's mush kinda like guacamole...in a bottle like the sauces are...and bright green. Tastes like nothing. I have no idea what they add to it, but I wouldn't be confident it's vegan, or even that it's really avocado.... bleurgh.

wow really?

now, you've messed with my head. The hungry part is saying 'wooooIloveavocadothatissoexcitingwoooo'.
The thinking part is saying 'avocado? in a bottle? I don't think so!'

but ultimately, this is all academic because chance of me paying money for someone else to make me a sandwich runs somewhere betweeen fat and not-a.

I just take an avacado with me and add it to the sub after I take it to my seat. A WHOLE avacado in one sub. MMMMM
