Orlando vegans

Hey!  I'm heading up to Orlando this weekend with an omni friend.  Which restaurants do I HAVE to try?  And what should I order?

Oooo i want to know too  ;D
The only place i can think of around there is jimmy johns, which is an amazing sub place, the veggie subs are even amazing with no mayo/cheese (sprouts, avacado, lettuce, tomatoes, cukes!)
I'm in the tampa area, so i go there sometimes

have you guys checked the 'eating out' section in the food & cooking forum?

Yeah, I did a search for Orlando but didn't see anything specific.  Thanks though!  (I've also looked at happycow and some other sites, but I wanted the specialization that I can only get from vegweb!  ;))

Okay. I lived in Orlando for a while. Here are the places you HAVE to try:

Dandelion Communitea Cafe (really excellent salad wraps, hummus, and teas)
Ethos Vegan Kitchen (get the "What's the Dilly Philly"... their mashed potatoes are bitchin too)
Mellow Mushroom (if you have never eaten at one. If this is the case, get a pizza with hummus on it instead of sauce)

Some other good options are Tijuana Flats (good tex-mex with lots of vegan options), Udipi Cafe or Woodlands (excellent veggie Indian restaurants who are very helpful to vegans), Drunken Monkey (for coffee, smoothies, and desserts), and Austin's Coffee and Film (some really good vegan sandwiches).

theres actually a couple reviews for that ethos place in the eating out section (they second the dilly philly thing too)

I don't think that Ethos is all that great... their philly is amazing, their mashed potatoes, and a few other things are pretty awesome. They seem to use a LOT of margarine/butter sub. I really prefer Dandelion to all the places in Orlando. That or the Indian places. There used to be a vegan rastafarian/jamaican place that was great, but they shut down.

Thanks everyone!  I mentioned to my omni friend that I had asked you all about restaurants and she said "oh, we're going to Ethos and Dandelion."  ;)b  She's awesome!  I'll let you know how it goes.  If anyone else has suggestions on what to order, please let me know!

At Ethos order this:

What's the Dilly Philly with mashed potatoes and gravy (or their chips and salsa)
Root beer
and a cookie.

At Dandelion order:

Happy Hempy Hummus (make sure to get it with carrots I don't like the crackers)
Stir Fresh wrap (or the Giddyup, but I much prefer the stir fresh with raisins)
Razzy Parfait

I can't believe the Garden Cafe did not get mentioned. Its an all veg chinese restaurant! They call it duck and beef, but its all veg. The only thing that is not is the egg drop soup (real egg). I love that place!
Undersarah, I have a good friend who lives in Sarasota (I used to live in Punta Gorda!). I will get in touch with her and see what vegan-friendly options she uses now. I am pretty sure there's no veg restaurants though. There is a sarasota vegetarian society though! I used to go to the meetups once in a great while.

I just looked at the Garden Cafe menu last night!  It looks amazing!

I like Garden Cafe, but it is not my favorite in the area. I much prefer the veggie Indian places!

I went to Dandelion for lunch.  It was lovely.  I split the nachos with someone but wasn't super impressed (not like Rosettas!) and I got a really good salad.  They had tons of awesome tea too.  :)

Ethos was randomly closed tonight, so we went to the Garden Cafe for dinner.  I got Kung Pow Chicken (It was SO weird to order chicken!) and it was pretty good.  I was just happy to be able to order anything on the menu!  ;)
