Livin Large in Panama

So I might be living in Panama, Central America next year and I'm just wondering, can you be a happy vegan in panama?
Does anyone on VegWeb live in Panama (or Costa Rica, or somewhere nearby) ?
Do you guys know any vegans in Panama?
WHAT AM I GOING TO EAT? :D

yes yes yes. There's a cute blonde girl, oktokrwl? something of that sort. She takes great food porn pics, and i've seen a picture of her in saran wrap. Basically, she's wicked cool.

I think she lives in Brazil. I just came back from a vacation in Cost Rica though & I ate a lot of rice & beans, but they were good rice & beans. Also, PB & Js for breakfast. They was also lots of really yummy, fresh produce available. Salads with hearts of palm & wonderful avocado. mmmmm We stayed at a really small town & the little local grocery had an organic section of shelves that included a soy based meat substitute that looked like TVP & a bag of powdered soymilk. It's definitely doable, I just think you'll have a hard time getting convenience foods & fancy ingredients, but maybe not in a bigger town or city.

I'm thinking about taking a vacation to Costa Rica and/or Panama later this year and thought about contacting her about where to go/eat while in Panama.  I've been to Costa Rica before and agree with  lisaanddini-- the produce is incredible, and there are great options for vegans even at the little local groceries.  I doubt that Panama is much different.

I never noticed she was wrapped in saran wrap! :D I am not surprised... her posts are always funny as hell! And her recipes and pics are amazing.  Her profile says Diminica so still the tropics. She could probably be a wealth of info.

*edit*

I have friends here who lived in Costa Rica for several years. I asked the wife about it and she said yes, you can be a vegan there with few problems. You may have to be careful not to eat soft fruit like strawberries etc. due to polluted-water issues but the foods are there. Not meat replacers etc. but certainly healthy, fresh wholefoods.
