Germany?

Hi everyone,
My husband is stationed in Mannheim Germany and I finally got the okay to join him..I am just a bit worried about how available vegan/vegetarian food is there. I have found a few Organic/natural stores through google but I am afraid the language barrier could lead to issues. Has anyone ever been to Germany or live there? Help!

lol i'm not really sure! just go to the search box, and mark "everything" and look up algae. you'll find something she's commented on or a thread that she's started.
I've never been to Germany, but I think they have LIDL supermarkets everywhere, and they have really good soy yogurt and hazelnut granola bars. Plus decent soymilk for 1 euro a liter.
I'm in switzerland, and it's not the easiest thing to be here as a vegan, but it's not impossible.There's plenty of organic stores with nut milks, tofu, etc. In fact, most of the vegan products here come from Germany! Germany seems to be a bit more into healthy food than Switzerland from what I've noticed. You can usually get vegan pastas and pizzas at pizzerias, vegan dishes at chinese restaurants, even in the traditional guest houses they usually have a "farmers plate" you can ask for without butter. I don't know if you're vegan or vegetarian, but if you're vegetarian you'll be fine, vegan you just need to ask about ingredients. Most restaurants have a vegetarian menu or veggie option. And don't stress about the language barrier, most Germans speak English (in fact, I think they learn it in school very young). Maybe not perfect english but enough to get the "no eggs, no butter, no milk, no cream, no meat, please" message across.

Thanks so much for the information :) It is good to know that many of them know English. I have been told they have a pretty awesome farmers market year around too so I am sure I will find some great veggies. You made me feel so much better lol

There are Lidls everywhere, but I've never seen the soy yogurt or granola bars. Or soymilk at Lidl, for that matter. I get my soymilk at Netto Discount though.
