Denver?

Anyone know of yummy places in Denver? I live in Wyoming, but my best friend moved down to Denver this summer. I am down there probably once ever month to month and a half. He's not a vegan, but is oh-so-supportive of me. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good places with vegan dishes? Of course I can have a delicious meal most everywhere I go, with a little creativity, but I was hoping for some place new. We go to the Thai place near his house ( in Lakewood) and are always at the Whole Foods in the Belmar shopping area. Defiantly don't mind driving someplace. Thanks!

Boulder has some interesting restaurants, that serve vegan food.

Watercourse!!  I live in Chicago but travel frequently to Denver since I used to live in CO.  Can't go there without stopping at Watercourse.  All veg, easily vegan (including all their desserts!!).  Love, love, love their seitan buffalo wings with ranch.  Yum.  DH loves their blackened tofu sandwich, says it's the best sandwich he's ever had.  www.watercoursefoods.com

Their sister location closer to downtown is City O' City.  It's a coffeehouse/bakery that's vegan.  Also yummy.  Same url as above.

The Rebellion is one I want to try but haven't yet.  It is a pizza joint that serves vegan pizza, their menu lists all the vegan choices by brand so you know exactly what you're getting (i.e. FYH Mozzarella cheese, Yves Canadian Bacon).  www.rebellionpizza.com

Post some reviews if you try anyplace out.  I'm always looking for new spots.

Yeah, please let me know.  We know we're heading out there next June, but maybe February as well, so if you find anything good, post it!  I'm especially interested to know if anyone tries Rebellion pizza.

Have fun!!

So we ended up not going to Watercourse this time, but defiantly plan to next time! We went to that fantastic Thai place I mentioned, called Star Thai.. Per usual, quite awesome. They have fried tofu for an appetizer, and I usually get that because I love the sauces they have. And then they have base sauces and veggies, and you add the tofu or type of meat you want to it. And please don't get me started on the Spicy Lemon Soup. I will forever be dreaming of that soup.
We went to Whole Foods and got some delicious bagels and vegan cream cheese and other random things. So I guess we didn't eat out a ton, except at Star Thai and Elephant Bar...
However, most excitingly, my best friend (very not vegan- probably opposite end of spectrum) ate the veggie riblets.. He loved them!!!! Yay!!! And then because he loved them so much, he decided to eat vegan cream cheese on his bagels.. It is so very nice to have such a supportive friend, and it makes going down to Denver that much easier..
But, next time I go down, we will for sure try Watercourse. Thanks :)

I'm definitely interested in if there are any other folks on here from Denver.  I just got accepted to U of Denver's law school and I'm from Richmond, VA.  So, I'm looking to get an idea on not only restaurants, but health food stores, local food movements, etc in the city, preferably near DU.

Though, still waiting on admission from 9 other schools (Fingers crossed on Seattle U, U of Oregon, U of New Hampshire, or U of Maine)

Quick recommendation for grocery stores in Colorado:  of course there is Whole Foods but I really recommend Vitamin Cottage.  They are a chain so they are all over (probably close to DU but I don't know for certain).  They are very similar to Whole Foods only smaller and cheaper.  Not quite the selection but great prices.

there's a nice Vitamin Cottage close to DU, and Sunflower markets seem to be sprouting up all over the Denver Metro area.

I agree with the folks who have mentioned Vitamin Cottage - easily one of my favorites, as is Sunflower.

As for restaurants, if you're going to DU, I HIGHLY recommend Jerusalem - it is a Mediterranean restaurant that is open nearly all night.  It looks a bit like a hole in the wall, but they are almost always busy and with good reason - the food is fabulous - some of the best hummus and grape leaves I've ever had.

Sweet Action is an ice cream parlour on Broadway, right around the Ellsworth cross street. They have regular and vegan ice creams! I'm also a big fan of Watercourse and their sister restaurant, City O' City. It's a pizza joint on 13th. In Aurora at Parker and Peoria there is Masala which is vegeterian Indian food. They have a lunch buffet and won Westwords best veg place last year. Two places I haven't tried but have heard are good. One is the cafeteria at the Seventh Day Adventist hospital and the other us Govindia's(sp?) which is a buffet put on by the Hare Krishna's lunch and dinner on the weekends.
