You are here

meat and your sex drive...

Has anyone heard the ridiculous claim that people who don't eat meat have a lower sex drive than those who do eat meat because there's something in meat that revs up the ol' sex drive?  I've heard this one a couple times and it makes me so angry!  >:(  Like people need meat to be "normal" or something.  Argh!

*erg* you cry about being a teacher? Hmmm....maybe I need to pick a new major...Actually I' hoping I won't have to teach forever, as a college student I know how horrible we can be to professors and GA's, but practically speaking, if I don't teach I don't have much of a way to bring in an income...I am hopefully teaching at a university will allow me to continue my studies propelling me to art history stardom (I don't think there is such a thing, but maybe I can make it happen...I'll write a book, I'll get interviewed for a documentary, I find a lost painting and *pow* I'm on the conver of Time magazine...*oops feel into a day dream again *my bad*).

OK, I think I got all the major points down, don't lectue too much, try to let them do something fun, and  Ihear bringing food really helps too *wink*!

Thanks Baypuppy!

I truly think that teaching is something you need a real vocation for (as in quasi-religious) in order to be good at it. I know 2 women who have a definite **gift** for teaching, one with small kids, the other at the college level. I do a bit of tutoring as you know (mostly Brit Lit) but that's one-on-one and I tend to fly by the seat of my jeans a lot...I just share what I know. (It also helps that I can read aloud well, and when dealing with people like Donne and Shakespeare, it seems to make a big difference!) But if I had to face drawing up coherent lesson plans and answering to a board etc...I'd cry! I did some teacher training in the States, but didn't finish...even at that level, the staffroom squabbles and politics weren't for me.
I truly admire good teachers, and since I did teach in a language school here for several years, I **know** you don't "do it for the money."

I'm not just doing it for the money. While I was studying at community colege, I had no aspirations, I was just going to complete a vocational program and get a job as a receptionist. Then I took an Art History course and my whole perspective changed, I instintly knew I wanted to incorporate that subject into my life. Art Historians don't have a long list of careers to choice from so I decided that I would complete my masters and work as a college teacher in the hopes that I could help another person experience that same feeling I did. Also, working at a university will allow me to continue with my studies towards a PhD and ultimitly towards a better future. But I can think of no better way to repay the people that helped me then returning to the place it all started and giving that gift to someone else. I don't know if I have a calling for teaching, but I have a true passion for my subject and the thought of sharing it with others, I get the best feeling in the world just thinking about it!

*oops* Thread derailed! I'll take the blame.

THERE ARE FOUR PAGES HERE!!!  . . .and while I would normally read them through, just this once, I thought I'd just skip to the last page and see how things were turning out. . . I'll never do that again.

oy, I went back and read through the pages and came to the conclusion that I shoulda stuck with the last page.  :D

So, while I don't have any information to contribute, I do love a good experiment -- where's the big event going to take place?

There was a recent case in the news of a 19 year old man brought up on charges for consensual sex with a 17 year old.

If that's the same case I heard about, it was his girlfriend.  The reason it was on the news (NPR, I think), is because if he's convicted he's going to have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life -and possibly get picketed by future neighbors and all of the other things that go with it.  The discussion was on whether there should be an "expiration date" on registering as a sex offender if there are no further offenses.

I am in school to become a art history teacher on the college level

My sister was an art history major.  :)  She decided to do something else for a living, but we were at the same college at the same time and I got to help her study.  I love art history now.  She had an art board game you can't find anymore where you pulled a playing card from a particular museum's collection.  Then you rolled the dice to determine whether you would name the artist, country of origin, date, style, potpourri, etc.  It was a lot of fun.  Back then I was an anthropology major and her degree seemed a bit more glamorous.  My summers were spent at archeology sites getting a sunburn on that patch of exposed skin between my pants and shirt as I bent over all day.

I was in school for a decade and I can say that a good instructor is rare and awesome.

;D orgy... lol... T'nT's response, "I'm straight and married (and in Texas)" was classic.  That's what I love about vegweb.  There are people (straight Christians living in Texas, for example) that in real life I wouldn't connect with get to know how awesome they are.  And - adamcrisis - I think 29 is a little young to start talking about how old you are (from a 35 year old's perspective, at least).  At least you're in the same decade as most of the people here.

Huh.  I wonder if they frequented the VegFriends tab.  I was looking at all of the tabs a while back and there are lots of people listed on VegFriends who I never see here.

i know... i will see profiles and think, damn she's awesome (actually, i think "hot" but i want to not sound like a hormone machine on here) but no one really in the baypuppy hood. but if a vegan dude came around i would consider dating him if he was ultra cool. i think vegans get preference over women because having that commonality to me would be hella awesome.

Maybe we can ask for a dating feature for this website, I know I could defintly use some companionship these days, I am hella lonely! Or maybe we can just post a dating thread and people could put up what there looking for. Maybe with a little effort we could get some people together!

Anyone interested in a chubby 28 year old?  :-*

baypuppy - I usually don't think about VegFriends.  I just went on there.  Dodo thanked "vegweb for bringing me my love."  Is that the one you're referring to?  euterpeinla is at the top of the page.  It seems like she's always somewhere near the top - well, she deserves to be if she's 51 and can still wear a short dress.

capture - Have you checked out VegFriends?  I just did a search for California and came back with 12 men and 13 women listed as vegan.  If nothing else, you might be able to find another vegan in your area just so you know one.  I think it would be cool to know someone, so we could try out vegan restaurants together.  My omni friends have no interest in meatless entrees.

Back to the VegFriends - since I looked the people up, I decided to browse them.  I gush about Humboldt county a lot (the best place in our great nation and so on).

Here's a quote from julihatesmeat:
"i went to humboldt state university with my boyfriend at the time, and found out about veganism.  again, the more i learned, the more i loved everything it stood for."

HSU is located in Arcata, which is where everybody should move - I'll send boxes if you need them.

Anyone here ever meet anyone from Vegweb before in real life? If yeah, what were your experiences?

I wouldn't mind meeting someone in my area from online to have some lunch/dinner/brunch/dessert with or something.  Whenever I go to my favorite veg*n place, I have to go myself because no one ever wants to go with me! :(  I'm okay with eating at a restaurant by myself but I also feel like I eat too fast.

I checked out vegfriends and using the broadest search I only came up with 10 matches and none oft hem have been active any time soon  :( oh well, it was a good idea! My friends are not too up tight about trying vegi food, I can feed my roommate anything, one time I even got him to tast some vegi pepperoni that tasted like dirt! Blarg, I'm just realy in "boyfriend mood" right now, I havent had a realtionship in way too long and could use a distraction, it would help if they were a vegetarian too...

Thanks for the idea HH!

vegfriends let's you search for people looking for love  :-* :-*

so l looked for men and women (okay, i'll be equal op here! desperate!) and only had 2 within 20 miles of me. granted, this was doing the 100 mile search! another lady was in a neighboring state. humm. i would have more luck if i lived in the city, i'm sure. maybe i'll hit up this dude. humm... am i bold enough to switch teams? he did wave at me.....  :o

the last guy i tried picking up totally rejected me because i wasn't "feminine" enough. well, okay, whatever that means.  :P one of my friends said, it's bad when you start trying to pick up guys....because you just want sex at that point.  :D (ohh where is s.bunny!?)

i know little2ant is gonna be in my 'hood soon. although i have no idea what she looks like.... can't hunt her down. also know that adamcrisis was comin' though on tour.... humm. i like to comfort of living behind the computer screen (thus why i havent emailed the above mentioned dude despite his wave at me. i'm clueless).
