What is Nama Shoyu

And is there something that I can use in its place?

I want to try to eat more raw, but I don't have access to special grociers, just an everyday hum drum small town grocery store.  So what I can get comes from that store.

Nama Shoyu is just unpasteurized soy sauce. You can find it at whole foods or other health food stores, or online.

Or just sub in some tamari or other soy sauce. Or Bragg's.

It is a high end tamari, specially aged in wood caskets for ten years, blah blah blah.  It is very good but only worth it if using as a dipping sauce. If it is called for in a recipe, just use regular tamari or soy sauce.

Tamari and soy sauce are not raw. Nama Shoyu is the only raw soy sauce available to my knowledge. I only use it in raw recipes. For cooked recipes and everything else, I use tamari or soy sauce. So if you're looking for a raw soy sauce, Nama Shoyu is the only available one. You won't be able to find it in a hum drum small town grocery store, but you can order it online.

I always wondered what all those raw foodists knew that I didn't. Thanks for this.
