What fruit did you eat today? a question to drool...

I know hesp is going to blow this up, but I need to be accountable for my fruit intake. I'm falling back into not eating much, and I want to change it.

Today: avocado (has to count!), banana, and planning on a tangelo

Lately, I've been buying medlars. Not that they're all that wonderful, they have thick skin and big pits in the centre...but there's just something about eating a fruit that's been around since the Middle Ages or before. (I have no life, we know this).

Also cantaloupe and the first nectarines and apricots.

Did you know that the name "cantaloupe" comes from Chanteloup, a French chateau where they were developed? Chanteloup means "the wolf sings" ie howls.

and that is the result of a classical education! ;)b

I took a bite of pear and had to spit it out, it was so gross. What a disappointment.
But then I had a banana, 17 delicious cherries, and a smoothie with another banana, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. And I had gazpacho, which has tomatoes, bell pepper, and cucumber, all technically fruits.

I had never heard of this fruit. I googled it, and it's still something I never knew of before - thanks for educating me!

I've been eating a lot of canteloupe lately - someone on a raw food forum told me a canteloupe and spinach smoothie would taste like a vanilla milkshake. I tried it, and it didn't, but it was really good. And now I keep making them, thinking they are tasting more like a milkshake all the time, but knowing it's probably only because I want them to.

The Common Medlar, Mespilus germanicus. Originally from Turkey from what I'm told.

Santa Claus melon.  My favorite fruit by a landslide but only available for about a month here.

Does it have a beard? Or go "ho ho ho" when you cut into it? I am mystified by the moniker.

ETA: I just Googled and it is our standard Spanish summer melon. Known here as "piel de sapo" or "toad-skin melon." I have one in the fridge as we speak.

Interestingly enough, the years that this melon is good, the watermelons here are awful, and vice versa. I don't know why that is, but I have seen it year after year. Tasty watermelons? Then don't bother buying the other. Watermelon gross and sandy in texture? Buy summer melon.

That pretty much sums up me, too! That's all I can get around here, just yet. Oh, and a mealy, tasteless peach. Eww. Waste of my time.
