Huh. Weird. It looked like a real site until I started clicking on stuff to look for the additives page. It's all like..google ads. Mega lame.

That looks like a good link. I once found a HUGE a-z list of non-vegan stuff, but I can't remember where...

I like to make gluten loaves but it always makes too much it seems.  Can seiten be frozen for later use?  Will it change the texture or anything?

I have successfully frozen seitan for later.  I usually defrost it, then press it (between 2 heavy plates) to get out the extra water before I cook it, like I would with tofu. Otherwise i think it's too watery, but I've also cooked it without pressing it, just not adding as much liquid to the frying pan, and it did okay that way as well.

^ that's so good to know!  i've always been afraid to freeze it!  thanks!

Does a vegan-friendly resturant list exist? Places like Applebee's or Chilli's, or fast food, which ever has been made up

Does anyone know what happens when you freeze silken tofu? In a misguided but well-intentioned attempt at having foods ready for me when I come to visit, my mom accidentally bought silken tofu (not realizing it's different from regular) and froze it (not realizing that tofu changes texture when frozen). Every day I look at it in the freezer and think about taking it out but don't know what it will defrost into.

We all make mistakes :) I did this one time without even thinking! I went to put xfirm tofu in the freezer and did the silken instead! Oops! So what I did is, I took it out, put it in a container and let it thaw in the fridge, then I used a cloth to strain a little water out, couple tablespoons will work. I whipped mine up with an electric hand mixer and then I made it into a chocolate espresso pie. Worked well! If you like chocolate, you gotta try it!

I'm sure you could also make it into a smoothie or anything else that it would work with. Either way, don't be afraid to just try it :) it isn't helping you any being lonely in the freezer.  :)>>>

ive used frozen silken tofu to make breaded & baked fish type things.  it's a lighter texture & kinds gets flakey so it works well.  it even looks sorta like fish when you freeze it.  it's more delicate though so you need to be more careful when you slice/handle it when youre coating it with breading.

Does anyone have any advice on how to keep my tofu from sticking like crazy to my pan while I'm frying it?  I've tried extra oil but that doesn't work.  I've been vegan for 5 years and still can't figure out how to make my tofu look pretty once it's done frying.  I usually end up with funny looking pieces of tofu and a lot of over cooked tofu bites in my pan.

P.S.
I do not use non-stick pans.

i think a non stick pan is the only way to prevent it from sticking though... why don't u use non stick pans? maybe u could bake it instead (never tried this but i have heard it tastes good)

Yes, use a non-stick pan, or bake them in your toaster oven. Just make sure the toaster oven tray is well oiled.

Thank you!  I don't use non-stick pans because of the teflon.  I have read several things about it not being safe so I threw all my non-stick pans away 5 years ago.  I'll try the toaster over.  Thank you again!!!

I am trying to make a pane of glass out of hard caramelized sugar and I need it to be red, and I cannot find some red food coloring that doesn't have RD40 in it. Does anyone think I could juice a beet and use the juice to achieve a dark red pane?

I have 2 questions... does anyone know of any vegan CAKE mixes and also is there some list that exists of vegan recipe websites/blogs? Besides vegweb I mean...thanks<3

I've come across lots of everyday cake mixes that just so happen to be vegan, as long as you add soy milk and egg replacer to them...I can't think of any off the top of my head though, but I've used them before and they work actually very well :D Sorry if that wasn't very helpful.
