Vegan cheese recommendations please

I would love to know what types of vegan cheeses everyone likes. I haven't tried any yet because their are a lot of choices and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Help please.......:)

My first two years as a vegan I did not try any of the commercial vegan cheeses at all.  They just didn't appeal to me as I was not a big cheese or dairy fan.  I used nutritional yeast homemade "cheese" sauce varieties in my recipes, and made homemade cashew cheese using agar flakes, nutrional yeast, and cashews once.

But one day I had a craving for grilled cheese sandwiches.  I did a little research and it seemed that Daiya is quite successful as far as melting goes, so I went out and bought some (the wedges).  OMG it was so good!  Very authentic, tastes much like real cheese from what I remember.  It melted very well and fulfilled my strange craving for grilled cheese.  The only issues are 1.  one package doesn't last long as it is kind of small and 2. it isn't that cheap and can be hard to find.  I bought it at a Whole Foods Coop.  None of the regular grocery stores where I shop carry it, but you can order it online through Vegan Essentials store.  At any rate that is the only one I have tried (the chedder flavor one), but I liked it very much.

Thanks so much for the recommendation,  my diet is vegan with the exception of having cheese on my pizza once in a while. I do miss grilled cheeses so i will try to find the cheese you recommend. Thanks much!!!

Tried Dailyea cheese and determined I'm so not a fan. It had a strange smell and looked like Velveeta. I still melted it on my grilled cheese but wasn't impressed. I think I'll Tay mostly vegan with n occasional consumption of cheese.

Try Follow Your Heart.  Or perhaps try a different flavor of Daiya.  Depending where you are, you might be able to find Heidi Ho, which is a cashew cheese we like.  You can also make cashew cheese.  There's a good recipe in Vegan Family Meals by Ann Gentry.  It's also in her other cookbook.

Ka,

sorry it didn't work out for you.  It has been so long since I have eaten real meat or dairy that things that taste good to me might seem really off or different to someone used to eating dairy.  I forget that sometimes but my omnivore husband reminds me.  When I first started eating nutritional yeast I couldn't understand why so many vegans love it but it started to grow on me and now I LOVE it!  Maybe it will just take acquiring a taste for something that is plant based vs animal?  Don't give up!  There must be something out there that can win you over.  :)

I highly recommend http://vegweb.com/recipes/vegan-mozzarella-cheese

This is great for making pizza.  I would give a five star rating but the site will not let rate it.Foot in mouth

Make shore you cook it longer then listed

Daiya is not a healthy product from my view.  Look at what in it.
