I'm wondering if I should attempt a faux turkey this year. I don't really care for the tofurkeys you can buy at the store. There are the two popular recipes on here & there is also this one: http://www.bryannaclarkgrogan.com/page/page/1435893.htm that I am considering. Has anyone had success with these? I'm pretty sure Smooch, my dad, & at least one of my sisters will at least try whatever I bring, so I want it to be really good & to have a nice firm texture.

The Bryanna Clark Grogan loaves are magically delicious, even though they take all day in the oven. BP and I made them for our pre-TG, and I make a bunch of them a few times a year and freeze them for SeiTurkey goodness all year round. (They freeze really well, and since they spend the whole damn day sitting in the oven, I generally make a couple batches at once and just get all the cooking over with)

I made her roast last year and stuffed it with a wild mushroom-dried cherry-shallot mixture. Was pretty good! Even my omni relatives were digging it, and my older sister (omni) fought my younger sister with a fork for the last piece. :)

Search on "SoySeiTurkey" here on VegWeb.  There have been huge threads about it.

I love it but it does take all freaking day.  I do like to stuff mine but the stuffing almost never ends up in the center somehow.  hahah

Thanks for the responces! I think I'm going to get an oval shaped casserole pan just for this. Glad to know it will be worth my effort!

I'll also check out the soyseiturkey

i don't like to celebrate thanksgiving, but i'm am going to make fake turkey legs for deep frying for my friend's renaissance fair-themed birthday party called "have fun storming the castle!" in december.

i gonna use a normal seitan recipe with onion powder, garlic, tamari, tomato paste, etc.  and add some poultry seasoning as well.

instead of boiling my seitan, i roll it into a cylindrical shape, wrap it in aluminum foil, and bake on 325 for an hour and a half.  i think it comes out much firmer and tastier this way.    you could probably even stuff it with something if you like.

all in all, the process takes about 2 hours...most of which is spent waiting for it to be done baking.

I forgot to mention that I made the The Bryanna Clark Grogan one last weekend. It wasn't as hard as it looked & it turned out really good! I didn't have onion powder so I used a little fresh minced onion. I also made a really good gravy with some of the leftover chicken broth powder that she said to use.

I'm going to make it again for thanksgiving at my family's house. For once I'm looking forward to thanksgiving! I'm going to try the flaming bourbon pecan pumpkin pie too.

I'm going to attempt to make Bryanna's seitan turkey this year.  For anyone who has made it, can I make it the night before and bake on Thanksgiving?  Or is it better to cook it completely and then reheat it on Thanksgiving?

I cooked it completely the night before, then heated it and browned it the following day.

You can precook this Biodancer! Most seitan is better the next day and this is definitely one of those recipes that benefits from an extended rest.

Thanks!  I'll make it, and bake it, Wednesday night then heat it on Thursday.  I'm ready to take this on!

Does anyone know if I can make The Bryanna Clark Grogan Turkey with frozen tofu? If you don't think it's a good idea I guess I can go to the store, but I don't really feel like it.

You need to blend the tofu into liquid for the SoySeiTurky by BCG.  So if you have a VitaMix and can get it liquid, go for it.  If not, then a trip to the store is in order!
