Question about cooking tofu

I’m looking for some advice….
So I have this idea of something I want to try and I’m not very experienced with cooking tofu yet so I’m not sure how it will work.
I want marinate cubed tofu, and then skewer it, role it in sesame seeds so the outside it coated and either bake or broil it…..so basically the outside would theoretically be covered in crunchy sesame seeds.
Do you guys think this will work???

I think it sounds delicious! Never tried it myself, but I think it's a great idea. Only suggestion I would have is to make sure you squeeze all the water out of it and your marinade is good and sticky to keep the sesame seeds from falling off. Mmm... making me hungry just thinking about it  :D

I did something like that: http://megatarian.blogspot.com/2008/04/sesame-crusted-tofu.html

I think marinating first would definitely be a good idea. Crushing at least half of the sesame seeds first (or putting them in a food processor or blender for a few pulses) would also enhance the flavor. Tonight I'm baking marinated tofu with a panko crust. :)

Oh!  I think I have a recipe like that...

From "The Essential Vegetarian Cookbook"

Sesame Tofu Bites

Marinade:
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 tbsp. grated ginger
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1/3 cup soy sauce

1 1b (500 g) tofu, cubed

Coating:

1 cup sesame seeds
1 tbsp. cornflour
2 tbsp. whole wheat flour

Marinate tofu cubes in marinade for at least 2 hours.  Toss to coat in the sesame-flour mixture.

This recipe calls for frying them but I don't see why you couldn't bake or broil them.  I think broiling would probably be best for a crispy texture.

This is what I was thinking:
for the marinade:
OJ
agave nectar
soy sauce
sesame oil
ginger
garlic
red pepper

I was gonna cube the tofu, skewer it, soak in marinade overnight then role the skewers in sesame seeds prior to baking.... maybe I should mix bread crumbs or corn meal with the sesame seeds....??????

Anyway, if it's good I'll take a pic and post on this threat  ;) I probably won't make it until this weekend though...

oil is very stick and wil help your sesame seeds stick to the outside. You could probablt add bread crumbs, but they might be kind of dry if you're planning on baking/broiling them, so you'll want to employ a nice spray bottle of oil to coat those. Just a suggestion, of course

I don't think you'll need breadcrumbs. I find that if things aren't sticking well enough to moist tofu, a roll in some cornstarch and a dip in some water makes a good gluey base for coatings.
