So, I've been MIA from this board for a while and here is why: http://www.local10.com/news/10759968/detail.html
I live in this building! Well, they finallylet us back in, but let me tell you the ordeal of trying to stay veg*n for 5 days with no home-base....and no computer to provide yummy recipes or locations of veg*n friendly dining. I'm SO glad to be back into my home where I can make my own food. Oh, except my computer got fried in the process! >:( I am very glad I have renter's insurance!!
This really was an eyeopening experience as to how I am going to function in today's meat obsessed culture. Sorry, I felt like sharing. ;)
Oh that's just horrible. I am glad that you are back now and that it wasn't any worse than it was. I lost a house to fire when I was younger and I know how horrible it can be. I can't imagine how hard it is to keep up veg*n ways without being able to use my kitchen. (even if it is a construction zone) I almost never eat out and usualy don't enjoy it when I do. I live in the boonies and relish my trips to Chicago for vegan variety.
Good luck with getting setteled back in and I am glad you are alright.
I am so pleased for your sake that you have renter's insurance. I've seen so many people have trouble after a disaster for which they were totally unprepared (not that you can ever be 100% prepared). My best wishes are with you and I hope it's nice to have your home base back again.
Was that your screen name before the incident? How ironic! Glad you weren't hurt. There are a ton of psychos in Florida. No offense to anyone....I lived there for 10 years so I know! Watch the national headlines. If its a strange but true story, there's a good chance it took place in Florida.
I know how you feel. I was without power and water for over 3 weeks after a hurricane in August 2004. It was tough finding decent food and a good shower. I heard of this one place giving away free veggie meals but when I got there they were all gone.
The good news is, I finally got out of there!
Have you been to Sublime in Ft. Lauderdale? Totally vegan and all proceeds go to animal welfare groups. It is the most amazing place I have ever eaten. I teared up when I read the menu for the first time :'(

For some reason I read this as:
It is the most amazing place I have eaten. I teared( think tore) up the menu when I read it the first time.
I think it's time for bed.
Thanks for all the well wishes! ;D I am just trying to get everything back to normal around here. And yes, I think there are a bunch of crazies here too (but I've thought that at some point of every place I've lived! ;)) And I'm making my hubby handle the insurance stuff...I do everything else and frankly I don't want to end up freaking out on some poor customer service guy. I meet 2 of the people who's apts were directly affected and 1 of them didn't have insurance....I felt soo bad for them.
I haven't been to Sublime.....I am definately checking it out this weekend though. Thanks for the tip!

Momma-That is so hilarious! Did I use the word right? I meant that I had watery eyes as I read because I was so overcome with joy. I guess if I hated the menu I would have "tore" it up, right? Or if I were insane? I hope I used the right word. You know how I hate improper grammar!
That's the way I say it too, little2ant! HealthyMomma, that's funny-- double entendre for the win!
