An Idea for the Recipe Collection..

My family has a tradition of making homemade Christmas gifts for each member of the family, half of my family are vegan and hate to cook. So this year, I am making them "Gifts in a Jar" you know the layered soups, cookies, stews etc.. I was thinking that, that might be a great new recipe collection. recipes/food gifts/gifts in a jar. I found a bunch that I am using and would love to post it. Anyways, if anyone has any thoughts on this or know of a way to get a new collection started - please let me know.

Thanks!

Maybe email admin and ask if a new category could be added somewhere and see what shakes.

Great idea, yabbitgirl!

Most of the ones I've seen have been for bean and grain soups with dehydrated vegetables in, or baked goods (muffins, cookies).  Any of these sound lovely, and since beans and cookie ingredients are generally sort of pretty, would be nice to look at before they're prepared...

I think I might appreciate a "ready mix" of some kind: uncheese mix, gravy mix (broth mix and starch), etc.  Especially if I hated cooking and knew it could provide me a quick-fix some evening when I was feeling cold and feeble, and there were a couple tasty sounding suggestions on the label (cheese rarebit on toast, gravy on a commercial veggie burger and a side of couscous, etc.)

I found this recipe online a while back on this site http://www.vegetarianbaby.com/cheapvegan/sandartbrownies.shtml

Sand Art Brownies

Layer these in a clear jar in the order given:

1/3 cup cocoa or carob powder
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup vegan chocolate chips
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 cup + 2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons soy flour
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional: you could add more chips instead if you want instead)

Close the jar and tie a card or slip of paper with these instructions on it:

In a large bowl, combine:
1/3 cup water
2/3 cup oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
everything in this jar
Stir until just moistened. Pour into a lightly oiled 9x9-inch pan and bake at 350F for 30-35 minutes.
