Grape Nuts

Does anyone know if Grape Nuts are vegan?  The box says it contains vitamin D and I have been eating Grape Nuts for a while before I found out about this.  I know PETA has Grape Nuts as an "accidentally vegan" product, but then again there are products on that list that aren't vegan.

Does it mention if it's D3 (cholecalciferol) or D2 (ergocalciferol)?  D3 is animal derived and D2 is plant derived.

It doesn't list the name of the vitamin or whether it's Vitamin D2 or vitamin D3.  It just says "vitamin D".

Hmm.  I guess all one can do at this point is call the company.  I did some googling to no avail.  Sorry I can't help you out!!

I'm absolutely crazy about grape nuts. I read the same article on Peta's "accidentally vegan" page. I did try researching it once, but didn't get too far.

If you do call the company, please post the results!

:) thanks

PETA's accidently vegan list neglects to check some of the mono and diglyceride sources along with some vitamins. Contact the company just to make sure!

My findings are 5 years old, but it was at that time reported by POST that their D was lanolin derived, and their B12 was coming from various sources; therefore no assurance could be made as to how it was gotten. The final tally was that you could consider it vegetarian, but it's not for vegans. :(
