Finally found a great vegan protein powder!

Hi, I'm a vegan who loves to exercise and lift weights. I've tried many vegan protein powders (rice protein, hemp protein) but I found them all to be very gritty and unpalatable. I've finally found a protein powder that tastes great AND dissolves really well - no grit!! It's from a company called True Protein, and it's pea protein powder:

I've tried the natural premium Bananas n Cream and the natural premium Chocolate flavors. I also have natural premium Strawberries n Cream and natural premium Vanilla, which I haven't tried yet. The bananas n cream flavor is awesome! The natural premium is sweetened with stevia. I seriously love these powders! I use them every morning after my workout and even as an afternoon snack - I blend some of the bananas n cream powder with a couple of frozen banana slices, a handful of frozen blueberries, and some water - YUMMMMYY!!  :)>>>

Anyway, I know there are others out there who have looked for non-gritty vegan protein powders, and this one is great because it's also gluten free for those who are interested.

Thanks for the recommendation!  Have you found these locally, or did you purchase from their site?

From their website...I don't know if they actually sell them in stores. I gave it a try after reading other people rave about it on a vegan fitness/bodybuilders site. I really love this stuff. Every time I drank hemp protein, I would get horrible acid reflux for days...it was like swallowing sandpaper! This stuff completely dissolves. I don't even need to use a blender or shaker..if you just stir it up really good with a spoon, it dissolves. And it tastes really great, AND I love the fact that it is sweetened with stevia! (at least, the natural premium flavors are..you have to pay an extra $1 a pound, but it's worth it to me).

There's also a new company out there called All-Pro Science. From the website it looks pretty athlete-centric, but they've got a really good vegan protein powder. It's a mix of organic Pea, Hemp, and Brown Rice so you get a range of plant proteins.

I know what you mean by grainy >:(, I started trying to increase my protein intake by tossing hemp seed in a coffee grinder, and the first couple of vegan protein powders I bought weren't much better. A vegan buddy of mine recomended this after he started to get into Crossfit but was burning more muscle than he was adding. All-Pro definitely isn't using a coffee grinder. Just spoon stir a scoop into some Rice Dream, no blender or shaker needed, and then remind yourself not to over do it, the body only needs so much protein and this combo is addictive.

My favorite though, when I feel like getting the blender dirty, is a Skinny Elvis: Scoop of peanut butter, half a banana, Rice Dream, and a scoop of the All-Pro Vegan Powder. More delicious than anything Dairy Queen ever sold me in the old days.

Is it just for athletes?  I run a lot and am concerned with getting enough protein since I'm not eating meat.  I don't do well with soy either.  Its not going to make me big is it, I don't want to be huge, just to stay in shape.

Great find! Can I get them at my local supermarket or do I have to order them online?!

The best I've found seems to be contract made by a larger company for a local health food chain called Good Food's Grocery - Soy Protein Powder.  It's 24g of protein, 1g of fat, 0 carbs.  I mix this in a little single serving smoothie blender with silken tofu, vanilla almond milk, flaxseed meal, and frozen berries and run the blender.  Way better for you than any pre-made shake, complete with whole healthy ingredients and it tastes amazing.  I drink it after I do my workouts and it seems to be helping.

I know another good one is 365 Organics from Whole Foods.  They have one that's relatively cheap and without all the additives and low on sugar.

I am with you, Veggie proteins are not typically what I think of when I think of good taste.

When i first got started getting into whole foods and a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, someone told my you can tell a lot about a person by the protein they consume.

Soy/Whey- Looking for health but depending on the product may not be getting the full level of nutrition wanted. There are quality forms of both of these available but few and far between with GMO and bio-engineered ingredients running rampant.

Hemp-  A quality protein for sure, and has long been labeled the "extreme" protein for hardcore vegans and vegetarians due to taste and mixability

Pea- Another quality protein, but again the taste and mixability have kept it out of mainstream consumption and adoption

Brown Rice-  a slightly nicer alternative to the latter two vegan proteins due to recent advances in taste and mixability and thus making it a quality alternative for those coming from a more flavorful or (less nutritional tasting :) protein.

Personally I look to the company first and then to their proteins next. If the company is quality and their products live up to their claims, so most likely will their proteins.  Two companies I have really gotten into include Sunwarrior and Healthforce Nutritonals.  Both extremely high quality companies with extreme attention to detail and delivering the most nutritionally vibrant vegan products available.

You can see their Vegan Protein varieties here,

but do your own research and draw your own conclusions on what works best for your body and what tastes and flavors you prefer.

THANK YOU so much for posting this!!! I bought the vegan pea protein powder - vanilla, with stevia, and it is so awesome!!!  I mix it in the blender with a banana and 8 oz of soy or almond milk and a handful of frozen blueberries. It's incredibly delicious!
Also, the prices were great, I thought. The shipping is a bit for one or two lbs, but they only tack on another $1 or so for every pound after. I bought 3 lbs because I wasn't sure if I would eat it, but I wish I'd bought more. I will definitely be reordering and trying the other flavors.

Awesome! You're very welcome. I just know I had a hard time finding a protein powder that worked for me, so I thought I'd share! :)

I love that website!! I have been ordering their rice and pea powders for years. You can also make your own blends of hemp/pea/rice if you should want to experiment with that. I don't know why I never thought to share it on here... thanks lebkuchen!
