Diabetic & Vegan
I am a type 1 Diabetic and I am trying to adopt a vegan lifestyle. I've done pretty well so far.. But are there any other vegan diabetics?! I'm kinda swimming around in a sea of confusion with what is good for me and what isn't! Helllllp!
I am not diabetic and I really don't know much about diabetes, except what I've learned from family who have type 2. Not sure if they are similar in terms of symptoms and treatment. But I thought I would share that many of them have really been interested in the research that Dr. Neal Barnard does about using a vegan diet to help diabetes among other chronic diseases.
My mom was dietbetic. And she had a really hard time. One thing that you need to know is the fruits and vegetables that turn into sugars. And make sure you get your carbs for the day. You don't want your sugars to go to low. Fruits raises your sugars but then your sugars will go low because fruits digest fast. So vegetables will do this to. Carbs and protein helps keep your sugars more stable. My mom loved oatmeal with fresh blueberries. The oatmeal will digest slower and keep your sugars stable for longer. And blueberries helps with producing insulin and helps the pacris stay healthy. WebMD is a good website to help find information. Myself, I'm a pre-dietbetic. And I had been trying to get rid of the sugar but it is hard for me. So I been trying to eat fruit instead of a candy bar.
