VW 2010 Meet up in Asheville, NC
So off screen, Lotus, Nutdragon and I did some talking and picked the date of July 23-25. It is the weekend of Belle Chere, a great Asheville Festival. Lots of live music and partying going on....and since it sounds like not many people are planning on going on the trip, I don't think lodging will be a huge issue.

There is plenty of other things to do if you are not into loud music and festivals. Hiking and exploring for one!
Later on when I am more motivated, I will add some links to this thread that show you other things you can do and visit in the area. I hope Nutdragon will help with this part! ;)b
For now, how about posting if you plan to come or not! I don't want to put a lot of effort into this if no one is going. :P
My city got picked, so I feel some sort of responsibility to get this thing moving.
And will you be driving or flying?
You can fly into the Asheville Airport (15 min from downtown). Or Greenville SOUTH CAROLINA (1:20 away from AV). Charlotte is also an option but it is a 2 hour drive or so.
If your town has Allegiant Air, you can get some really good deals into Greenville. My mom got $12 round trip tickets once.

There are a lot of logistics that I would need to check on before committing. I need to know if that is the same week as band camp, and if I'm supposed to be teaching it again this year. That's money I need. I'd also need to look into where to stay/expenses. If that festival is going on, things will probably be crowded/more expensive. I'd definitely be driving from Atlanta if I came, and I doubt my parents would be okay with me going alone, so I'd probably have to bring someone with me. Whoever it would be (I have someone in mind) would be okay with eating vegan for the weekend.

I'm pretty much down for the journey. I'm just a little concerned about lodging but I suppose that I could stay like an hour out and drive in but then parking... I guess I will have to figure out the specific logistics after I get the final details about the what, where, and when of the planned meet-ups/events and such. I will be driving down in my car most likely and probably will bring a friend but there are three more seats available if anyone in the MD, VA, PA or DE areas is interested. It fits my school schedule and I really want to come so I am pretty confident barring from anything horrible happening that I will make the trip. ;)b I guess just keep me posted on what the plans are.

I live 20 min from AV and the places here will not be booked because of the festival, for sure.
Yea, I was concerned that all lodging for an hours drive radius would be booked. I am very glad that there will be some available as close as 20 mins away. I'm not to particular for where to stay, hotel/motel, cabin or even camping but I guess it will depend on whoever comes with me and their preferences. I'd love some recommendations though, so I could get some kind of plan in motion.

I will talk to LB but I dont know if this will happen for me. July got busy with a cousin of his getting married then, his parents asked if we were free the week after to come up and visit us for like a week! Yikes!
So unless I can convince them that we should just go down there instead I will not be able to make it. :(

I just googled "camping in asheville, nc" and found a bunch of stuff. I haven't actually camped here yet, but now that the baby is older, we plan to start (this weekend).

It appears like there's going to be a PPK meetup in Asheville on June 23. FYI!
I just camped at Curtis Creek! There are some first come-first served sites there, and those are free. Some you have to pay $5 per night.
I think they say don't bring dogs because of the bears.

Hey L2A, is this still going to happen? I would love to come up to Asheville for a visit, but unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to make it this particular weekend. My friend recently got into law school and that weekend is the big going away shindig. We should plan for some other time though!
Actually, nevermind...I still may be able to make this. I'll know for sure in a week or so.
