Second Annual Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale - April 24 - May 2
Hi! The second annual Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale (WVBS) will be Saturday April 24 thru Sunday May 2, 2010. Hold a vegan bake sale and join in the meaningful fun!
The concept is simple: Groups from around the world hold vegan bake sales during that period. Participating groups can do whatever they want with the proceeds. Anyone - not just vegans - can participate. The profusion of vegan bake sales across the globe during the same nine-day period creates a fun and effective buzz. Compassion for Animals (http://www.compassion4animals.org), which started the WVBS, will leverage the event to get positive press about vegan baked goods and veganism in general.
The first WVBS last year greatly exceeded our excpectations: 100 groups on four continents raised over $25,000 for various causes and introduced nearly that many people to the tastiness and diversity of vegan baked goods. VegNews Magazine called the 2009 WVBS the "Veg Event of the Year."
Last year the event was in June, but due to popular demand we moved it up to April-May so more campus groups could participate, and so frosting doesn't melt if you're having a bake sale in places like Texas and Florida.

The WVBS is very decentralized. You can use the proceeds to raise funds for your group, donate to a local humane society, or support Haitian relief - or anything else.
You may be able to get funding for your bake "sale" if you do a feed-in, where you give away the goods and optionally ask for donations! Details on the web site.

There is a vegan bake sale/ community yard sale on 4/24 put on by local animal rights/welfare groups in Baltimore. All proceeds go to local programs/campaigns for veganism. They are taking donations so I am getting some stuff together to donate. I also think I'm going to go so I can buy up a bunch of delicious vegan treats. I was thinking about baking something to sell for the bake sale but I'm a little afraid because I don't bake very often and I wouldn't want to sell something that sucks. I guess we will see... I was thinking of somekind of muffin that tasted lk a cinnamon bun and had the yummy crumbles on top with a vegan creme cheese or Cinnamon sugar topping, or maybe an apple streusel, we will see.

Baltimore, MD 21228 from 7 am to 5 pm.
There are actually a couple of events going on in Maryland for vegan bake sales. There is another bake sale sponsored by Open The Cages Alliance. That one is going to be on 5/1 at the Station North Flea Market Address: 100 block of W. North Avenue, between Maryland Avenue and Howard Street from 9am to 2pm. The website: www.veganbakesale.org can tell you more about it, its where I found out. I also know there is a "veg week" going on in Takoma, MD but thats way too much of a hike for me.
