Official California Potluck Logisitics Thread (PLEASE READ)

Hi everyone,

As co-chair of the invitation committee for the 2009 California Potluck (aka Sconefest) I need the following info from everyone interested in attending:

Would you be available to attend on August 8th, 2009?
If not, when would you be available?  Be as specific as possible and limit yourself to August, please.

I know that it's a year away, but we need to start gauging level of interest and commitment now in order to plan effectively.  Otherwise, next summer will roll around and no one will know what's going on.  Just trying to prevent mass chaos/anarchy/tears/hurt feelings/wasted money.

Thank you!

Any peeps gonna be in L.A. for the animal rights conference? I know not all y'all are AR people, but, you know...

I plan on going :)

I hope that vegan bakery from Oregon comes again!

Is it in August?  ???

No, it's July 16-20 I believe. (I was afraid it was going to overlap with the potluck, because last year's one in DC was in early August).

In case anyone is/will be in the L.A. area...

As a native Los Angeles-...er?ian? I feel that I have to contest the usage of the term "The City" to denote San Francisco. Clearly, Los Angeles is The City.

So I'm thinking of flying straight from Europe to San Francisco.  Is it still looking like the 8th?

used to spend summers in L.A. as a kid but never considered myself a "los angelino" ...

(last year was almost transferred to the San Francisco area; Redwood City)

... and as i'm still back there fairly often, will follow to see how the planned get-together works out. sounds cool!

I am waiting on my tax refund (filed) and thinking about using some of the money to buy a ticket, but I don't want to buy until we are 100% sure of the date.  (Not that I'd mind a trip to SF anyway, but I couldn't swing two in the same month.)

Ok, well I don't know what else we'll wait for? I haven't heard that anyone now hates the date..maybe just wait until it's closer? We are planning on staying a few days, but I guess the 8th is like the official potluck (or whatever) day for everyone to meet? I think. I think Kate and I will start some more official planning soon. Does anyone have any ideas of where they want to stay (if staying overnight(s))? I don't know (anymore) about people who are willing to have people stay with them, but I have that Green Tortoise hostel in mind.

Maybe I will wait until June to book.  There is a chance I may have a travel companion.  ^-^  A little too soon to tell.  I will be staying in a hotel in the city - probably somewhere near Union Square because it's easy for transportation.  I plan to stay for at least 4 or 5 days.

^-^

Well, we'll have our car!

Now I am thinking about coming. I love you guys and I've always wanted to go to CA... we shall see if this can work for a jobless girl...

I'm not sure how long I'll be staying yet. I'll likely be working this summer, but I'd like to stay in SF for a little bit (I have a friend who lives there, *and* if I can persuade the bf to go, I'd like him to experience SF... he's an Angeleno who has never been to SF for reals, and it's quite a shame).

Where exactly is the potluck/sconefest taking place? This is looking like quite a big meet-up!
(and 'cause I want to plan transport from wherever I'll be staying to the sconefest site)

And I need to figure out where I'll be staying, especially if I'm going alone... anyone up for sharing?  :-*

I really have no idea where it's taking place! I don't know of any who want to host us all, so we'll have to meet somewhere else. We will figure it all out, though. Everyyyonnnneee needs to come!  :D :-*

maybe a park?

maybe a park?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking! Is it like nice hot in SF in August? I would guess so. I know it's definitely not the HORRID humid burning heat of North central Texas. Any favorite parks?

I'm planning to fly out to CA and probably do some backpacking a couple days to a week before the meet up.  I haven't made any concrete plans though.  Anyone who wants to join me is welcome.  I will not have a travel companion, so I'm flexible.  I don't know where I'm planning to stay in SF.  I have a friend who lives in the city, but haven't gotten in touch with him.

Sounds amazing. We might have to talk about that! I think we're still planning to stay at the Green Tortoise. KMK and I are working on an event page thing, and I've looked at a couple of parks where we could have the big meet up. Currently, I'm thinking about Panhandle park, or Dolores park. Does anyone have any opinions, suggestions, or recommendations?

Hiii everyone...

I know I haven't been around, but this thread has been getting activity so I just wanted to say I am still down for this and of course anyone is welcome to stay with me if they want (I say if you want because I am a few hours drive south of SF and it is definitely cheaper to fly to SF if one is flying).
Personally, I kind of prefer taking specifics of pot-luck/whatever meet-ups to an email kind of listserv rather than on a public forum, so if anyone wants they could either start one or I am willing to if everyone is ok with that.

Actually, I already have a gmail account from a potluck I hosted a little over a year ago... would everyone be ok with using that? no one has to moderate or anything, everyone could just send an email to that address that is interested and I can send out a big email and we can all just write "reply to all"...? Sound ok? I think it will also be easier for those who don't frequent the boards/this section to keep track of!
if when you send the email you can include your user name on vegweb that would be great.

the email is "western veg web potluck at gmail dot com" but obviously it all runs together and the at and dot are symbols.

Hey hesp! Yeah, I have been planning on using the event page that I'm making, so that everyone planning to attend can register. So, people can email that address that you have, and then they can be sent the event page link.
