New 2010 meet up poll, and discussion!

Let's get this started, bitchez. I can start saving after a while..........hopefully.

You can have one choice, but may change your vote. I'm undecided! Asheville would be good, but I'm up for any of them.

What other kinds of things could/would we do in Asheville?

the landscape itself offers so much. hiking, swimming in swimming holes, chimney rock state park is amazing, tons of art galleries. cool shops in town, veg restaurants, farmers markets, lots of live music and festivals all the time, the blue ridge parkway, mount mitchell hiking, there's the biltmore estate, the grove park inn, drum circles, coffee shops galore, l2a's pad, sliding rock, swimming in lakes, pisgah national forest hikes, big night scene, i hear some pot smoking goes on, street performers, lazoom bus tours, etcccccccccccccccccc....

I wanted to chime in with an option, if Asheville and camping is how it all ends up.
Hot Springs, about 30 miles outside of Asheville offers excellent tent sites and cheap cabins right off the river.  Hot showers and hot springs tubs (big fan!), too.  It's also right off the Ap. Trail.  We go truck camping there fairly often (as in, sleep in the truck), usually with friends and we'll grab several adjoining sites.  TPTB are pretty flexible with multiple people per site, as long as you aren't asses about it.
FYI, bugs aren't bad at all here, even in the heart of summer.  No chiggers; the mosquitoes are for the most part vegetarian.  But, skinny dipping...eeehh...the water's cold.  Been there, done that, froze my tits off.

Last year we did the cabins at Thanksgiving.  Some cabins have their own baths, some have a shared bath.  All sleep 6-ish.

I would not say that the town of Hot Springs (which is tiny) is vegan friendly, although there is an outfitter store for trail hikers that has plenty of off the shelf veg items that you are familiar with.

There are a lot of music festivals in the summer, be aware when you guys are picking a date.  Lodging gets real iffy unless you plan ahead.

I hope you all come to Asheville!

I'm not making any promises, but I might be able to make Asheville if the meet up happens there.  Again, I'm not promosing anything.  Also, Katie doesn't camp, so we would most likely stay in a cabin or something if we came.

eta: Katie is afraid of bugs and wild animals, that's why she doesn't camp.

Ok, I guess I can hope for Asheville to win, because it seems like more people can make it!

What the f--- is a 'chigger'??

Have you ever walked through the grass with shorts on and noticed that you had multiple red bumps on your legs a little while later?  That is from a chigger.

I vote for Atlanta!  There are many vegan and veggie restaurants and stores in Atlanta and its surrounding areas.  There's a Vegan Society in Atlanta and lots of other raw food and healthy eating groups. Also, I live outside Atlanta, and I like convenience.
