BP & RC plan an Easter Thing (Capital Region, NY)

I know this is a few months early.... but yesterday Baypuppy and I were cooking bunches of foods for the freezer in my new giant kitchen (we made TONS of ravioli with my pasta maker) and we got to talking about having a vegan Easter potluck/meetup/get together. We could make Seitan-Hamz and make vegan easter chocolates and cookies and party down in the new-improved Chez-Rabid_Child (in Latham -- 15 minutes north of the former Chez-Rabid_Child in Albany). Another idea we were tossing around was having everyone bring a pre-determined number of plastic Easter eggs with a vegan treat inside to hide, then we could have an Easter egg hunt!  (And also encouraging everyone to wear their "Sunday Best" and their "Easter Bonnets" -- and possibly having someone dress up as the Easter bunny so we can have Easter bunny pics. HAHA!)

Easter this year is on April 12th, so we were thinking either the weekend before (April 4/5) or the weekend after (April 18/19).
Our new house is pretty big and we can accomodate overnight guests if people wanted to come from further away.
As always, both vegetarians and vegans and respectful omni friends/significant others/family members are welcome, though all the food would need to be vegan so that everyone could enjoy everything.

Does anyone have any interest? If so, would one weekend be better than the other for you? Saturday v. Sunday?

I bought my first "treat" to put inside of an Easter egg today!!

My official verdict on the Easter egg hunt is as follows:
Bring as many plastic eggs with vegan treats inside them to hide as you like. You'll get to find/take home as many as you bring with you -- but be advised that if you bring like 50 because you're crazy, you may leave with 40 of your own eggs again  :-D

i'm going to put rocks in my eggs. hand painted rocks. :)

i had a dream about easter. i was trying to make all these easter baskets from donated supplies for all these kids. and i was cutting vegan cupcakes in half to try to make all the baskets equal. oye.

Let's review BP's plan: Give lousy gifts, that are ALSO projectiles.

Good plan there, bp! Now don't forget your riot gear...

MDV, I'm sorry I can't go up north with you...  I'll be out of town until May (working).

My mom lives 30 miles west of Albany, but she's not online.  She is heavily involved with the Albany Veg Network.  She told me yesterday that she is volunteering for an event on Earth Day (or around Earth Day).

RabidChild, Hope your party goes off w/o a hitch!!  Looks like it will be fun.

Thanks! I don't know much about the Albany Veg Network... are they associated with the Albany meetup group? I gave up on them years ago because they'll only ever schedule meetups on weeknights and i have class and things. Blah. Started my own country. Haha.

It's looking like we've got about 6 from VB, and 3-6 more from PPK. And however many from here... Should be a good bunch!

Hey RC, I noticed you're in the meetup group, and you haven't been on in a while.  Yes, a good amount of the people in the ALb veg network are also in the meetup group.  We are actually meeting tonight at little anthony's for some vegan pizza, yum!  You should come!  BP never wants to come, and it has been cool every time I've been there.  Do you have class tonight?

Little Anthony's poisoned me, man.
Nah, I don't have class tonight, I'm exhausted though. Been at work since 7:30 am. Maybe another time that it's not a class night and not at a place that tried to off me, I'll go with you.

Yeah, it is actually next Tuesday anyway.  I made a tiny little itty bitty mistake with the date.

So... Who all is coming to this shindig?
And what are you bringing?
And is anyone sleeping at my house?

I have it down as a plan to go but its tentative due to my job situation.  I hope to have a more definite answer before the Easter Thing arrives!

As for what would I bring?  A main course dish and a cake or two.

No idea what for the main course yet, I need to think on it for a bit.

I am planning to come.  Driving from seven hours away my food bringing options will be somewhat limited.  Debating on staying in a hotel halfway...  :-\

You could fly! It's somehow cheaper than taking the train... $155 round trip to Albany with a stopover in NYC. (Including taxes and fees! I checked on orbitz, flying out Friday and back Sunday)

And.. cookies? Cookies travel well. And are delicious.

In other news.. someone has signed up for mac & "cheeze." Mmm...
