August! Barbeque! Albany Area, NY!

Yah, so I'm planning late.. what of it??

In honor of L2A's visit to the capital region the first week in August, and the fact that we wanted to have a Big-Ass-Vegan-BBQ sometime in August, I give you -- this thread.

For people with interest in such things, I present the following 2 choices:

1. Sunday, August 2nd, Big-Ass-BBQ
2. Saturday August 22nd, Big-Ass-BBQ -- Sunday August 2nd, smaller gathering, still rockin'.

You can guess what my choice is!!!
Plus, August 2 is my BDay! What better way to spend it than with BBQ and vegpals?

I won't be able to come on August 2nd because I'm going to Montana for pre-California....pre-gaming.  :)

I might be able to make it on the 22nd though!

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make either of these days =).  NOM NOM NOM!

Since we had more people who could do the 2nd and not the 22nd, it is going to be on the 2nd. Camillus may have a special guest with him as well ;)

I'll probably also do something on the 22nd for my bday.. only less insane.

I will probably be able to come for a few hours-the family is having a party at the same time, I just found out, but I will be going to both!

probably not. since they are having family party, they would probably be pretty mad if i took the kids with me (there are relatives that have not met Lyle yet).
I will try, but its not looking good! I don't need to give them a reason to hate me. ;)

this potluck is gonna be EPIC esp if lotus is still around when it happens

EPIC

ROFL!

I keep thinking things like "damn... I'm gonna have to clean off the back deck and weed my garden again and have Brett mow the lawn..."

We've got about 20 people coming right now! My friends Emily and Jon and the bebes are gonna come cause Emily is really interested in vegan foodstuffs and I said she could come to one when she wasn't giving birth or something (the last one happened the day after Eli was born).

I'm sure it will just as EPIC without me...but we'll see.  ;)  :flower:

LB is going to be in Germany for the first week of August.  I will tentatively accept this potluck for now until he changes his plans. hahah

Cali, you have to be there!

BP I meant to thank you for being so generous on my FB page and telling me not to worry about what to make. I will try for the lemonade since that doesn't require being in the kitchen, really (I'll be fighting for space in the smallest kitchen I've ever seen while others try to prepare food for a family party). I'll try to do more, even if it means bringing a bag of chips or sumpin. Maybe I can make a dessert the night before-before it gets too crazy.

Maybe chef lindsays  :-D  chocolate cookie dough brownies! Those things are amazing and make me laugh when I think about them. The whole CL scandal.

You guys are awesome! I can't wait to meet everyone!  :)>>>

Cali - YAY!!! Be sure to send him off to Germany with a list of veggie things to bring you home :)

L2A - If you just want to bring the plates and cups and sodas and things that would be fine! No one had volunteered to yet and then you wouldn't have to worry about the kitchen space! You could also pick up veggies and stuff to grill and prep them here. I have heaps of kitchen space :)

Just a thought... when we have potlucks here, we ask that each person bring his own plate, cup and utensils (and a bag to carry it home). That way, there's much less waste, and no one has to do dishes (just your own when you get home!).
I really hate disposables, but I will bring some if you want me to.

I'm still thinking fresh squeezed lemonade sounds delish! No?

Lemonade sounds awesome! I was just suggesting things in case you can't get into the kitchen.

As it stands now, I'm usually doing dishes for about 2 days solid (not to mention all the other cleaning up after people) after one of these things. While I'd be perfectly happy for everyone to bring their own stuff, I just don't think it will happen and I shudder to think about having to add more dishes to my pile when I'm handing out more plates and silverware and what not to everyone who forgets. I do wash all the plastic utensils people use, I just then don't have to worry about people throwing away my forks by accident. I don't use disposables day-to-day myself, but in cases such as these, I just can't handle more washing up. I'll post it on Facebook though asking people to bring their stuff and we can see how many people remember :D

That sounds like a good plan.....once people get the hang of it (it takes a few times), they rarely forget. I will bring paper plate/cup back ups for the forgetful ones. But I think if you keep on requesting each time, in the end, it will save you a lot of work!

I will bring at LEAST lemonade, and maybe a dessert!
