Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World

Isa Chandra rules. She can plan my Punk Vegan Revolution any day!

I got the VCToTW ;) book a while back but hadn't made any yet...
So this morning I decided to jump in and go for the Brooklyn vs. Boston Cream Cupcakes and just wanted to let you all know how YUMMY they were! Sooooo UN-vegan tasting!! And really easy even though I had to make cupcakes, vegan custard AND chocolate ganache!
Here are some pics... the center custard is melty cuz I was impatient and cut it open to take the pic without letting it cool! LOL
BUT wow YUM!!!
Isa is my hero!

mmmmm those look delicious!!! I swear Isa has some of the best recipes! I've made a lot of stuff from her cookbooks. my favorite cupcake was the "Fauxstess" (VwaV)!It looked somewhat similar to what you made; there were  3 different icings for the inside, ganache, and squiggles on top! It was a lot of work, but well worth it! hmm... i think i might just have to break out the baking stuff for tonight :)!

I highly reccomend the cookies and cream cupcakes!!  They are SOOO delicious!  I brought some to work and all the omni guys couldn't believe they were vegan.  I'll have to make them again and post pics.

I was going to make the cookies and cream ones! But I didn't have any vegan shortening on hand for the frosting! I am really excited about making them!
These are so rich I've (only ;D) had 2 in the last 12 hours and I'm gonna die if I eat anymore!

I can't say enough good things about this cookbook. Sometimes I just read it for fun.

Sooo yesterday i made the lemon gem cupcakes from the VWaV cookbook.... brought them to school and everyone LOVED them. Even my one friend who swears hes allergic to vegetables and soy lol He had 4! When i told him i made them with  soy milk and there were no dairy products in it , he was like wow, but they taste so good! :P  I def. reccommend these if you love lemons!

Mmmm...I've been wanting to make those, but have been a bit too lazy, ha ha! You did an amazing job and you can't go wrong with Scooby liners...too cute! Now that I know ho easy they are perhaps I will give it a go. I have made the red velvet ones several time and my family really enjoyed those and the coconut ones too! :)

I made the Cashew Butter Cardamom Cupcakes with Rich Cashew Butter Frosting from VCTOTW today, and they are FREAKING STUPENDOUSLY DELICIOUS!!  In fact, they may bump the Brooklyn vs Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes for first place in my book.  If you haven't tried these Cashew Cupcakes yet, I highly recommend them!

I like the cupcakes without icing. I find the icing can be quite overpowering, and the rich and delicate flavours of the cupcake aren't given full attention.

Posting pics like that on here should be illegal!!!  Sigh...I can't wait to get my celiac self together and try these gluten free.

JH, I hope this isn't a silly question, but how "custardy" is the custard?  Asking because my grandmother makes a banana pudding with an egg custard base.  It is wonderful and I miss it since cutting out eggs.  I wonder if that would work.  I really need to buy that book...

There are two (I think) gluten-free recipes.

I looooove this cookbook. I'm making some of these for my coworkers next week (including boston creme! yay!). I've done the matcha, red velvet, cookies and cream, marble, and apricot almond. The apricot almond came out a little dense (dunno what happened here, except maybe it was me being too cheap to buy almond meal and replacing it with whole wheat flour  ::) ), and the marble came out a little dense (suspect #1 is me and my impatience, since i heated the margarine to get it to soften), but they are still absolutely delicious and worth the trouble.

The buttercream for me is too much; too greasy, too sweet. I made the full batch for those cookies n cream, and that was a TON of icing! I like the delicate amount of glaze used for the green tea cupcakes... I think for my next chocolate icing i'll make that fudgey one with the tofu (less likely to melt as i eat it here in august!)

Oooh I really want that now... I have VWAV and love it, so very much. Family also loves when I cook from it. Annoyingly I'm going abroad for a year so cupcakes will have to wait until I get back  :'(

Okay, so I'm newly (3 months) vegan, and apparently the only one on the board who doesn't know what VCToTW and VWAV is. Can someone enlighten me?  ???

As for gluten free, Lady Dragonfly, I made my first vegan cupcakes last night using expensive Cherrybrook mix, and they tasted different from "regular" (don't get me started on that term) cupcakes, but I couldn't figure out what the flavor was...eggy perhaps? Regardless, I took them to a friends dinner party and the plate was wiped clean pretty quickly!
