The Tropical Vegan Kitchen by Donna Klein

I hadn't even heard of this and was playing around in Borders and decided on a whim to buy it.  I made the Spicy Tawainese-Style Black Sesame Noodles and it tasted great. I used 6 oz. of rice noodles instead of the Chinese noodles and added a little chili sauce to give it a bit more heat, but it was great. Here's a picture of it. I didn't have black sesame seeds, so I used the regular ones so it doesn't look as fancy as it might have.

The second picture is of malaysian hot and sour noodles with tofu and baby bok choy. My husband gave it 4.5 stars.

Thai-style stir-fry with crispy tofu and hoisin sauce - Most excellent.  It has many layers of flavor from the sweet hoison (I did not add the extra sugar she calls for), to Thai chili peppers (my addition instead of red pepper flakes), meaty baby portabellas, peppers, onions, ginger, garlic, cilantro and Thai basil, to lime.  Loved it.

Canary Island red pepper mojo sauce and potatoes - There is method of cooking the potatoes that involves 1/2 cup of salt (it's later drained out but helps to wrinkle to potatoes and then it's cooks and made into potatoes that can be dipped in the sauce) but I ignored all that and just boiled some potatoes and poured the sauce on top.  This was a very simple sauce of red bell pepper, olive oil, garlic, cumin, paprika and salt blended together.  It was very good...all the flavors go together real well.

Thai-style sweet-and-sour vegetables with turmeric - This was o.k.  Nothing to get too excited about, but good healthy food.

Malaysian hot-and-sour noodles with tofu and baby bok choy - I wanted this to be amazing and it was just average.  The tumeric and the lemon juice in this dish didn't work well for me and the flavors didn't come together well.

Thai pumpkin curry - Good.  This has pumpkin or butternut squash, carrots, red bell pepper, and chickpeas in a curry sauce.  The sauce is made from orange juice and coconut milk, with red curry and other spices.  The orange taste adds an unusual and unexpected flavor that was pretty good.

Bangkok-style rice noodles - OK......I make so many dishes like this I'm finding myself not easily impressed anymore.  Not that this wasn't good, it was.  The addition of tomatoes didn't seem Thai to me but was a nice twist that I enjoyed.

Jackfruit and spice rice with pistachios and and coconut - Wasn't expecting much but this was delicious!  I used brown rice and for broth I used the chicken style powder I made from World Vegan Feast.  She calls for cardamom pods, whole cloves and a cinnamon stick for spice, but powdered worked real well.  The jackfruit I used was in syrup which I drained off well, so I used unsweetened coconut.  I had to stop myself from gobbling up the whole recipe.
