Sinfully Vegan

Hey friends!  Today I rented "Sinfully Vegan" from the library and the recipes all sound delicious!  Has any tried any of these recipes?  And for those of you who have, which do you recomend?  I have noticed that many of them involve peanut butter, my fav! I'm glad PB is vegan cos i couldn't live without it  :P  The cream-filled donut recipe sounds guiltily yummy but also sounds pretty difficult due to the technique and long process.  Well if anyone has any helpful comments about this book they would like to share, I'd like to here it.  I think this book is living proof that veganism doesn't mean sacrificing desserts and sweets.

My mom bought the book for me.  I don't really use it, because I think there's better recipes HERE for some of the stuff represented.  I just use the book as an idea platfofm for making stuff.  For example, If I was making a traditional boston creme pie, I use yellow cake and vanilla pudding recipes from here, and then make a up a simple glaze of chocolate.  Some of the ingredients she uses are out there too. Xanthum gum AND arrowroot powder?  Do you really need both?  Isn't there a way around all those ingredients to still get good results?

Haha, I also dislike peanut butter, so maybe that's why I don't particularly like the book.........

Some good ones: oatmeal raisin cookies (you can sub all the sugar-2 tablespoons with stevia very effectively), sinless brownies (they have a good texture, but taste a bit too applesaucy).  The pudding recipes suck, lol, use some from here or in La Dolce Vegan or something.

I have made a couple recipes from this book.  All turned out really well--definitely things I could serve to my omni friends with pride.  (They were impressed too!)

Some of the recipes are complicated/difficult, but I mostly think of them as special occasion things, like for holidays or birthdays.

I try  lots of the recipes from this book.  I like not sinful brownie the best.  I think every recipe with chocolate is good!

Yes, they both do different things.  From going gluten free, I am now familiar with both of these things.  Xanthan gum lightens things and well YOU know what arrowroot does.  Xanthan gum is imperative for GF baked goods for sure and most of them also have arrowroot for part of the flour.

To really answer your question, if you are not GF you sure can get around them.  I think this is why some (stupid) people think that vegans eat weird stuff.
