Mini cookbook challenge

I'm going to try to work my way through more Isa/Terry recipes. They are all my favorite cookbooks, but I get caught up in other things. I'm going to start mainly with more things from Vcon and VWAV. Anyone else want to participate? I know some of you have already made like everything in them. I never really follow recipes exactly, but I want to make more of these things. I want to try to do..2? recipes a week. Isa and/or Terry books only!
Isa's new book, Appetite for Reduction is coming out around December, I believe. I've tested a lot of the recipes, and it's going to be good!
i can't say i go "mini" on cookbooks, but i just came to say - since you're a tester does that mean you get a mention in the end?? I always look at their list of testers to see if I "know" anyone.
and, is that the low-fat book or something?

Yeah, I think so! She was also going to do this neat idea for pictures, but I think too many people were slackers, so I dunno what she's doing now.
It's a low fat/weight loss type book. Just not as much fattening stuff, some good subs, and not much oil at all.
It's already available for preorder: http://www.amazon.com/Appetite-Reduction-Filling-Low-Fat-Recipes/dp/1600940498/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1281227007&sr=8-1
maybe if my gift exchange person buys me one of their cookbooks.....
or I guess I could go get them from the library too....
yeah, I'm in....
I just pre-ordered it!
neat!!! I think you'll love it.
I'm in, this sound like fun. Can we use Vegan Brunch too, or the two dessert cookbooks, or just VCON and VWAV?
I'm in, I've got VCon, VCTOTW and VCIYCJ, I have checked out VWAV from the library like 3 times, so I've made a lot of those...I want to order Terry's new book too....so yes, I can totally manage 2/ week (extra credit for more than that?)
Oh, yes. All Terry/Isa books! And I didn't mean only 2, of course! I'm just going to shoot for at least 2, but you all can do like 76, or whatever. : )
I am totally down! I have been meaning to cook more out of cookbooks... I am addicted to Viva Vegan!
I'm making stuff from Terry's Viva Vegan.....so I might be in. The reason I say "might" is I also committed myself to dust off some of my more underused cook books...but Veganomicon is pretty underused, so I might chime in a time or two.
I requested VCON, Vegan Brunch and Viva Vegan from the library....hopefully they'll come in soon...
When do we start?
Now!
Great, aggplanta! I haven't tried either of those, but I don't remember knowing that the quiche was white beans. I'll have to make that.
I did 3 from VWAV for tonight.
Broccoli chickpea casserole
Been wanting to try this for a long time. I was thinking that it was probably going to be too bland, and I'd be disappointed, but I was very pleased. I stuck with recipe amounts for the most part (it makes a ton!), but added less breadcrumbs, and more broth for flavor. I didn't do the chives. I left some whole beans. It doesn't have any spice (I did add some black pepper), but the flavor is still good and balanced. I think it's important to have a broth that you really like/is really seasoned. I baked for the given times, and I liked all the textures. A great healthy meal.
Garlicky kale with tahini dressing
I didn't like this as much as I thought I would. I had to tweak the tahini sauce a bit with lime juice, and I just didn't love it. Mine stayed pretty liquidy, too. The kale is ok, but I've made better. They work ok together, but not a favorite.
Tahini dressing
Kinda meh. I was expecting to love it. I might have messed it up though. I'll keep it in mind to make again for the falafel. I'll probably use the rest that I have this time inside something, or not at all.
A good meal, overall.

Sounds good guys, (3 recipes AC, you're good for this week and half of next week :) I've made that brocolli casserole before and I thought it would be too bland too and it was actually pretty good.
I made the
Basic Single Pastry Crust
This was good, pretty much like any pastry crust, but I have never used the vinegar + baking powder combo before. It tasted good and was of average "flakiness" So yes, it was good...oh and I subbed WWpastry flour, because thats all I usually keep/use, and it was still pretty flakey. The recipe doesn't give baking info, probably because it is meant to be used w/ one of the pies, but when I looked at the Lost Coconut Custard it just said to make one of the crusts, and bake it. Didn't matter though, its a pretty self-explanitory thing....I baked at 400 for about 20 minutes, (until outsides were golden.)
outside of the review...I was going to make either the smlove or the Lost Coconut Custard, but I remebered I had a container of Tofutti, and got lazy
and made a no-bake "cheesecake" (just a container of tofutti cream cheese, and 1.5 cups of melted choc chips, 1 cup soymilk 2 TBS sugar and a splash of vanilla-all melted, mixed together, and then chilled in the crust...yum!)
Curried Split Pea Soup: I have mixed feelings about this soup. For one, I love it. It's delicious, I love the spices and texture. But when I was making it, I guess I was a total idiot careless and opened the lid while it was simmering and a jetstream of air shot out straight at my face, burning the skin clear off of the tip of my nose :'( Other than a little resentment towards that, love it! I think next time I'll add some chopped carrots to it. (I'll post a picture later. I was too distressed last night...)
Ouch........db.....I usually do that with the oven...get my face right down there and open the oven to get a blast of steam and heat...........
aww danni that sounds painfullllllll!
I made the Curried Split Pea Soup last night too! But after reading the reviews, I deliberately made it with less liquid so it was more like a dhal I guess, and served it over Coconut Rice with Toasted Coconut.
I somehow stupidly forgot to add the carrot to the soup, and really think that would have rounded it out a bit better, but we did really enjoy it. The flavour was tasty, but we found it really mild so I'd probably tinker with the spicing somewhat if/when I make it again.
The coconut rice made a nice complement with the curry flavours of the soup/stoup and was easy to make
I'd definitely make this again with thai curries.
Yeah, it hurt pretty bad, but it's all good! Oh wow, that sounds good paired with coconut rice. We just had it with bulgur and some sauteed veggies.

The Best Pumpkin Muffins (VWAV): These were great! I've been craving autumnal flavours lately (for some odd reason...) so these hit the spot. They're so nice and moist.
Mocha Mamas (VCIYCJ): I made these without the drizzle because I'm lazy like that. I don't think they need it, they're so good on their own! The subtle coffee aftertaste is great. Mine didn't turn out all crinkle-y like in the picture in the book, but I think that is due to the fact I replaced some of the fat with applesauce. No big deal though. Everyone loved them. There are only two left!

Mmmm! Everything looks/sounds delicious. Great job, all.
I was wanting to make the tomato soup recipe from Vcon, but I didn't have a few of the things, and made a lazier tomato soup of my own instead. I'm going to figure out what to make tomorrow!
