Is there a good Indian cookbook out there that's vegan or primarily vegan? I know Indians use a lot of ghee and yogurt.
I'd appreciate any recommendations that I can add to my ever growing collection of cookbooks.
I was all excited because I thought you were talking about a real Indian Vegan cookbook!! Alas...
However...you will be happy to know that my cookbook (you know, the one you just ordered!) has LOTS of really yummy authentic Indian recipes! Look in the menu suggestions chapter near the back of the book for menu ideas and also in the index under Indian Food(s) for a complete listing of all the recipes.
Otherwise, I don't know of any good Indian vegetarian cookbooks, let alone vegan ones! But, I hope you love the ones in my book--I'll look forward to hearing how they go for you!
:)
Thanks quintess.....I'm looking forward to the arrival of your book....:)
I have some sauces from the HFS that are vegan, but would like to make things from scratch every now and then. Plus, I'm starting to get excited about my Indian trip coming up in Novemeber.
Thanks BP...I read a review on Amazon about that Vegan Taste of India and it wasn't all that favorable.
World Vegetarian is on my fav list and looks like an awesome cookbook. I might splurge and get it.
I also have World Vegetarian. I like the way she wrote it, but really haven't used many of the recipes.

tweety,
There are no vegan cook books in Indian cookery TBOMK.
My website has huge number of Vegan recipes in rice, curry, sauces etc.

If you don't understand some terms you may feel free to ask me.
Where in India are you going?

Madhur Jaffrey cookbooks are great. Highly recommended. ;)b
BP, what recipes have you made from World Veg? I haven't had as much luck as you, but maybe I've tried the wrong recipes!
Just a couple weeks ago, we here at VegNews received a review copy of The Indian Vegan Kitchen by Madhu Gadia. It's slated for release on Oct. 6. I haven't had a chance to look through it yet, but I'm so excited for a vegan Indian cookbook!

That is exciting! I can't wait to hear about how the recipes turn out. BTW, how does one send a review copy to VegNews? I'd love to get the word out on my 2nd edition that just came out!
Thanks! :)

Want.
That is all.
My favorite, hands down, is Flavors of India Vegetarian Indian Cuisine by Shanta Rimbark Sacharoff. Although the recipes are vegetarian, she gives vegan substitues in every single one. Each recipe I have tried has been absolutely wonderful, but usually I double her spices because I find that I like things extra spicy. I bought my copy from amazon.com.
Thanks for everyone's input!
I'll hopefully be traveling in Northern India in November, if I can get coverage for me here at work, which isn't easy because I'm taking a 16-day tour.

Awesome!...I'll put that on my Wishlist, it's exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I already the cookbook that Baypuppy recommended above and a Thai Vegetarian cookbook and blew my budget. I'll be looking for the review in VegNews should you choose to review it.

I've been waiting a long time for a 100% Vegan and 100% Indian cookbook. Thanks for the heads up on its release next month.
This">http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Krishnas-Cuisine-Vegetarian-Cooking/dp/052524... is my favorite Indian Cookbook
While not specifically vegan (there's a whole chapter on dairy dishes...) a lot of the recipes are easily adapted. And most importantly, delicious.
I have World of the East vegetarian Cooking and I agree that it's written really well and is very informative but for some reason I haven't been struck by any of the recipes.. and the ones I have made haven't been super exciting. Do any of you that own the book have any suggestions for what to try out of it? Thanks ;)b
I can't wait to get that new Indian vegan cookbook. I was on amazon the other day looking for something else and it looks like there's at least 5 really good looking vegan cookbooks coming out in the next 3 months or so. It's so exciting to finally be getting so many great cookbooks coming out.
Anyone have this yet? I'm considering getting it...
I looked through "The Indian Vegan Kitchen" the other day in the bookstore and it looks like a great collection of recipes.
I wound up getting another cookbook that day instead, "The Asian Vegan Kitchen" and am really enjoying reading it so far. It has a section on India (where the author is from) with 52 recipes, including the spice mixes and sauces. In all, it has 200+ recipes, all of which are authentic to each country and not just "inspired" by the flavors of that region. Not all of the recipes have photographs, but the ones that do look delicious.
I have The Asian Vegan Kitchen and like it a lot, but haven't made too much from it. I'll be getting the Indian Vegan one for Xmas.
