Veg foods your dog SHOULDN'T eat

I've noticed that alot of people sometimes feed their pets 'human' food. I came across this story in the latest issue of national geographic & i felt i should pass it along so nobody poisons their pet with innocent seeming foods. I don't have any pets but i would feel horrible if i did something to hurt one.

Interesting. Thanks Propinecone. The article says no garlic but I give my dog garlic and brewers yeast tablets reguarly to promote a healthy coat and keep the buggies away. (We don't use frontline, etc).
I know grapes are on there but raisins are bad too. Have been know to cause renal failure. Corn is not the best things for dogs either, they don't digest it well.

I feed my dogs garlic all the time....keeps the critters away and is good for their blood as well.....as a matter of fact "whole garlic cloves" are listed as an ingredient in some of the finest dog foods made and sold....but I'd like to stress.....it is NOT good for cats.

weird. the article says it breaks down red blood cells and can contribute to anemia over time... maybe it's possible some of these facts are newer discoveries.
i saw this article too, and was going to ask all your opinons on the garlic issue too....

my little hot dog has had it twice now, and we were told to avoid any alcohol or rich, fatty foods...both of which my ignorant bro fed to her (steak and beer!) and in a day was sick!

As stated above, I've been giving my dogs raw garlic several times a week for years and years with no side effects or problems. Besides the health benefits....it keeps the fleas and ticks away.....naturally. :)

THAT'S for sure! One time Cody got into the trash (he normally ignores it) and at several corn cobs :D :D Man, was I scooping corn-filled poop for days after that!
Shoot, I forgot to read the article! I went to your link and saw somthing about "hidden" cell towers. When I was driving last year from St.Louis to Fairbanks, Alaska I saw that buffalo cut out that is disquising a cell tower. There were several of those cut outs like that and I thought it was strange that they were there. Now I know why those were there.
Hmmm, I think I am due for another long journey like that. I love to drive. Maybe I should've been a truck driver.

i had no idea pancreatitis could lead to diabetes too! thats all we'd need, me and my dog could share our insulin! haha.

Growing up my dogs ate more sandwiches than I did. Yikes! :o
My pets have all eaten garlic, onions, grapes, corn, bread, avocado (not the birds-totally toxic to them) and chocolate.
Every night I put whole wheat bread or whole grain bread in their bowl. Filler!
My holistic vet explained when an animal does not eat processed crap (pet food), they can tolerate and handle way more. Why, their immune systems are not compromised.
They have never been given excessive amounts of any of the above. Isabela my Mexican dog loved avocado. Probably because living in Mexico and living off garbage, she found a lot of it. Boobie my old cat that was dying of old age thrived on avocado and ate it nearly every day. Very heart healthy.
The dogs have all loved grapes. Maybe two grapes every time I bought a bunch,
Garlic: Have added it to food but not regularly as it is great for the blood and wards off parasites.
As for corn, the cats seem to digest it totally as I see none in their poops. Cali, like me and all humans passes it through her and her poops have full kernels. So does mine.
Chocolate is a rarity for them as I rarely crave it but they have all had chocolate ice cream.
Booze, a total no no. Although I used to find Pie and Boobie drinking out of my Kahlua and milk drinks. I obviously took it away right away. No one should find it funny to see an animal drunk or stoned. Totally wrong!
Probably most of the above should not be given to a pet that eats processed pet food. Their immune systems are compromised from the get go.
For those that want to ward off fleas... add raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar to their water. You can not use a stainless steel bowl if you do this. Bragg's is a great brand. As well, the apple cider vinegar adds much needed minerals. If you have a big water bowl, start slowly. 1/4 teaspoon. You can build up to 1/2 a teaspoon or more.
Haven't had a flea on my critters since I started doing this in flea season. Do not buy Heinz or similar apple cider vinegar that is so totally processed.
If animals ate unprocessed foods (pet food), they would be much healthier and be able to digest way more.
I read the article, but I am sure their tests were on pets that are fed the multi million dollar pet food crap that is shoved down our throats.
We try to eat healthy and stay away from processed foods and yet we buy what we stay away from for our pets. Things that make you go hmmmmmmm...........
