PetGuard cat food--anyone buy this brand?

As I've mentioned in other threads, my parents' cat and my childhood cat is in the early stages of kidney disease but the prescription food is crap so I've been looking for an alternative. I came across this brand and their Venison and Rice formula is within the range of protein I have found that Lacie should stay within (23-27%). I found this range by looking through academic journals and calculating the g/kg/day thing into kcals/lb/day for our 10 pound Lacie (I guess all those years of dimensional analysis have paid off  ::) ).  Has anyone tried this brand?

Thanks!

I tried this brand (the dry food) when I first decided to get my boys off mainstream and prescription (byproduct filled) food. It seemed like a good food, but my cats would not eat it. And my 18+ pounder will eat ANYTHING. He would just sit there and stare at his full bowl and cry for something else. I'd be gone all day at work and come home to find the food hadn't been touched. That had never happened before. So I tried them on Pet Promise and they LOVE that stuff (wet and dry). I don't know if Pet Promise has the protein profile you're looking for, but if your Lacie doesn't like PetGuard, I recommend Pet Promise.

My biggie boy has bladder cystitis (why he was on Science Diet prescription) and has had no problems since switching to Pet Promise wet food.

Good luck to you and Lacie!

Hmm...good to know. I think my mom would just buy the wet (since Lacie should only be eating high-moisture food to ease the load on her kidneys), so we'll see if she likes that. The Pet Promise canned food has too much protein for Lacie (although I do feed this occasionally to my cats and they gobble it up!).

Thanks! And I'm glad to hear your boy is doing well. I can't believe how crappy these "vet-recommended" prescription foods are--why would you feed a sick cat crappy food? Makes no sense...  :-\

My kitties get the Peguard chicken/wheat germ canned food and I have bought them the dry food also. They love it and gobble it up.

This is the only canned food that my DOG will eat!!! ::) She won't even eat the dog food made by this brand... She is a picky, snotty little girl. ;) I think maybe because there is a higher meat content, for carnivorous cats?? And she loves meat. :-\ At any rate, she pigs out on this stuff!
