need help: tree sap and cat hair

well.. some time last night while i was sleeping my cat xander decided to drink from the christmas tree and now has dried sap all over his forehead. i have no idea how to get it out. i tried washing it off with a dishtowel but it didn't do anything.

his hair is stuck in big hunks and i'm almost considering just cutting his fur.

any suggestions?

mayonaise gets it off skin.. don't know about fur?!?  I also don't know if veganaise would work?  I think it's the oil in the mayonaise that disolves the resin.  I'd suggest trying a little veggie oil but then kitty will clean himself and you'll end up with a whole other mess.  A little pre-Christmas haircut may be the best solution.

Awwww! Poor kitty! Any chance you have a pic of him all sappy? I'd try the oil trick--but he'll probably clean himself--I wouldn't think sap would be danderous to ingest...

Try peanut butter--it works getting gum out of kids' hair. At least he wasn't drinking from the toilet bowl!  ;D

Cats--gotta love 'em!

Using a small comb or your fingers:

Mush in peanut butter and the fur should separate from the sap (may have to repeat)
Freeze with ice then add vinegar(dissolves sticky) and a bit of conditioner
Oils in mayonnaise help objects slide out

I used my google skills (but i did search for pets and sap) so maybe... I've never had a run in with a sap b4 except on my hands

What a pretty kitteh! Is he a blue Burmese? 'Cause he looks a lot like our little blue girl.

Meh, maybe I am a neglectful pet owner, but I wouldn't be too worried about it. I'd try to wipe him down a couple times a day with a damp, warm washcloth, but between that, his own cleanings, and a couple days, it'll work itself out.

i think. they never told us when we got him. all i know is that i saw that kind of cat a long time ago and knew i wanted one and i was lucky enough for the pet store to have one on adoption day :) hes my baby. from day one he fell asleep right when i picked him up as a baby. now hes a slinky kitty that causes a lot of trouble and thinks of all of us as a couch lol...

i'm not real worried about it but i know he can't get his tongue up above his eye to clean it. he tried cleaning it with his paw earlier but gave up. if a warm washcloth doesnt work i'll go to the PB, vinegar, and conditioner route

okay so we tried the peanut butter. it didnt work. it kinda stunk. peanut butter and christmas tree sap mixed together does not make a good smell at all. but i'm assuming that since we could smell the sap that it was working  a LITTLE. just not enough to get any out. then we tried to cut some of his hair off and he didnt like that at all.

i guess i'll just keep trying the warm washcloth

Good luck Sariea, I hope perserverance works.  ::)  Our three lovely Burmeses currently have ringworm on their ears...  :o :( ...wish that could be fixed with a washcloth or some PB. But nooo. *sigh*

Oh, poor sappy kitty.  Best of luck, Sareia!

Rubbing alcohol and then a nice shampoo should do the trick.  Be really careful around kitty's eyes, natch.

For human hair, acetone (ie nail polish remover) works wonderfully in getting sap out, however with it being so close to the eyes, not sure what good of an idea it would be (maybe if you used a cotton ball?). Also (if you have it) I'd try some Simple Green, or Dawn dish soap, both are used by rescue organizations for animals that get stuck in oil spills.
