My doggies foster home
For those of you who dont know, I found a foster home for my two doggies! They will be living about 20 minuets away from me with family! I was trying really really hard not to get too excited about it until I had a chance to check them out. But I went and looked at the house and interviewed the family on Sunday, and they seem just fabulous! They have a large yard witha fence that is high enough that Guinevere *shouldn't* be able to jump. They live in a part of town where I wouldn't constantly be worried somebody will swipe them from their house to use as bait ina dog fighting ring (a problem in parts of Hatford.) And they said I can stop by any time to pick the dogs up/drop them off/visit. The person who is "responsible for the dogs" (getting paid for them anyways and doing the feeding) is a 17 year old girl high functioning Aspergers. This is a way for her to make a little money her senior year of highschool. I spoke with the mom extensively and she understands that she will be responsible for the daughter caring for the dogs, and ultimately the dogs. They seem like great "pet owners" their own two dogs are in great shape and obviously well cared for. They are well behaved and were both rescued. The family only uses positive reinforcement for correction and never physical discipline. They don't even own a kennel to "lock the dogs in" (I'm bringing Guinevere and Dartagnons kennel for them to sleep in until they get readjusted to healthy life and don't soil in the house and chew things up because they are starving- but I don't think the family will abuse the use of the kennel.)
I am drawing up a contract with the girl and her mom specifying how the dogs are to be treated, whats not okay (ie locking them up for hours, hitting them, etc) specifying that they are to notify me if there are any problems, take them to the vet int eh event of an emergency and that every measure should be taken to presever their lives until I arrive to make decisions regaurding their care....and, most importantly, that this is NOT a transfer of ownership...that I am the sole "owner" of the dogs and that they are the borders. it also says the rate of pay I am giving them, frees them of all finical responsibility for the dogs and says the dogs may not be held as collateral....Do you think I am missing anything important for the contract?

Specify WHAT (maybe also how much/many times a day) type of food/snacks you want them to be fed (and what foods ARE NOT okay). Also who will be responsible for executing their grooming needs (and what that includes, brushing? nail clipping? washing? ear care? etc). You should probably include the appropriate protocol should one or both of the dogs run away (ie do you want them to call you before/after a cursory trip around the block, signs, notifying animal control, etc). Who will be liable should one or both of the dogs cause personal injury/property damage, and to what amount of $$ is the limit. You do not endorse/permit the border to use the dogs for personal gains beyond the agreed upon amount you're paying them (this is a nice way of saying they can't sell them, or use them in any betting situation). And that you retain the right to end this agreement at any time.

Oh, good...for the food I was thinking of saying "provide food provided by me (the owner)" but I'm not sure what to say about the amount, because I told them that we were going to have to work with them on the amounts until their weight is restored. Hummm...also its good to have a specific time line for when to notify me. I thought I'd say "immediately" but that can be a little ambiguous. And that is excellent about the about the injury/personal injury....oh my that is scary to think of! Now, about the making money off of them, if the girl say, trained the dogs to enter in an agility show and won a cash prize, I would be okay with her keeping it...but I would not want them to make bets off of them (cause the only things I can think of for that are pretty depraved) and I CERTAINLY dont want them selling them, hummm...I wonder how to phrase that....Excellent stuff hanashi!!!!

I would always specify type of food to be given.
With me I always leave a small bowel of dry food out during the day.
Maybe not in the summer as much because of ants.
