I found a stray and he needs a home, but...

...I took him to the vet today and she said that he needs over $200 in dental work. Other than that, he's a healthy as can be.

For those of you who have experience rescuing animals, have you had any luck adopting out animals that might need a bit of medical care? Any tips?

Thanks!

No advice, just want to say that he's a cutie.  What kind of dental work?

He is cute. And super sweet. I wish I could keep him.  :-\

One of his teeth is broken, so it needs to be extracted. The vet said that it happened to be a tooth (I don't recall the name) that is difficult to remove because it has deep roots. She suggested that his teeth be cleaned at the time of the extraction because of the tartar build-up. She gave me some price estimates, and it's only $40 to have the extraction and the cleaning.

It needs to be taken care soon. The vet said that it would probably take a while to abscess, but of course he's in pain. I was hoping I could find a nice person who wouldn't mind a few extra vet bills...but if I can't find anyone within the next few days, I'm going to give the vet the go ahead to have it done.

Why can't you keep him?  He's such a cutie!

He's not exactly supposed to me in my apartment at the moment... ::)

We're allowed to have pets where we live, but only two per apartment. He makes three!

Well, if he has a tooth pulled, then he isn't "fully complete", now is he? LOL! I know that's a bit of a stretch (well, actually, a HUGE stretch! ::)), but I'm just trying to find ways for you to get around that rule!

We never adopted any of them out.  We kept them!  I used to bring home strays all the time.  We had a cat that "adopted" us and you could tell that he had been hit by a car at some point.  His lower jaw was crooked and messed up and his tongue hung out his mouth.  It didn't stop the cat from eating and he wasn't in pain so the vet advised not to do anything about it since the old injury didn't seem to bother the cat.  He was still a loving playful cat.

I also forgot to add that I've "violated" apartment rules on cats like you would not believe.  ;)
