I haven't actually seen them, but I found the droppings in a downstairs closet. I don't want to kill them.....anyone know of a good live trap?
Sorry, I know there's been posts on this before, but I have no time to search! My husband is getting on me to get traps TODAY! :-\

Check this out....you can make a humane (no injury or kill) trap from stuff you have in your home.....let us know if it works.... :)

I've heard mice really hate the smell of peppermint. If you buy some peppermint oil and put some on cotton balls and put it around your house or just where you think they hide out, it's supposed to work. I know it works to get rid of ants too- just put it where they come into your house!
My Beloved just came across this yesterday, and it sounds super-easy and efficient. Not sure if it is the same as other suggestions you have received, but good luck in any event.

Here's another link I found; I'm in the market for one of those humane traps, too because NOTHING is stopping those little guys from coming into my house. I've tried everything.

Since we're talking about this, I'll tell y'all my little story of what happened this morning. I went to a large home improvement store in search of a humane trap, and all they had were traps and poison that kills them. Another couple came up, and I said, "Well, shoot, I guess they don't have any humane traps here." and the man said, "I want them all dead. They breed" Ugh, I really don't care for people like that. I wanted to say,"so do you, maybe you should die." But I just quickly walked away. :-X
Wow, that DIY mousetrap is pure genius! Maybe I'll print some copies of the design and leave them by the non-humane traps in the store. Cruelty-free and money-free! My favorite!
It's so odd.. I have mice too. I found mouse droppings in one of my drawers where I keep my cutlery, so I washed my knives and fork and put them somewhere else.
All my food is stored in tupperware. It's a habit i learned from living in a cockroach infested apartment building when I was younger.
I will not poison or trap mice. I won't even use live traps. If I use live traps and I catch them, where will I put them? What will happen to their young (if any?). I live in the suburbs, if I set them free in my backyard, if they don't die in the snow, they'll either find their way back to my house or someone else's (where they will no doubt be killed). So you know what... I'm living with them.
/sigh
I still keep my food stored away and make sure there's nothing to encourage them to stay and I clean up after them. I'm not sure this is the right thing to do. I certainly won't feed them or anything like that. I'm hoping the presence of my cats is enough to keep them away and hopefully realizing that there's no food to find around here will discourage them from staying and maybe they'll naturally die out. But as I thought about it I couldn't be directly responsible for their deaths by either poisoning, traps or leaving them out in the cold.
I have actually considered keeping them after we trap them. They are so cute! I do have lots of fields and woods around here so I could set them free (which I will probably do). I bought a live trap today, but now I might try the toilet paper method and return it! I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the help everyone!
Post pics if you can. I think they're cute too!
We've had a mice problem in our garage this winter that we never had before. I am terrified of the little critters, don't ask me why but they scare the daylights out of me. One morning, the day after recycle day, I went out to the garage with my arms full of newspaper & cans to put in the recycle boxes...well, I looked down & there were 3 mice in the bottom of the empty recycle box. They somehow got in but couldn't get out. I couldn't go near them, so it was up to hubby to get rid of them. He didn't have the heart to hurt them, so he put them in a container & took them for a ride in the truck & let them go out in the country.
