Hate spiders?

Does anyone hate spiders?
They scare the crap out of me.
One just dropped on the screen of my laptop from my ceiling while i was typing.
i put him in my cup and let him go outside.
but holy crap. they scare me.

well, i am actually in love with spiders.  i used to have pet tarantulas.  but bugs can be really startling sometimes, so it's hard not to kill them.  i've always had a pretty big problem with snails and slugs (and my school mascot is a slug, how awesome), but i can't even really get close enough to them to kill them, which is good.  because otherwise it would be salty salty death for any that came too close.

I am totally fascinated by spiders, but they also scare the crap out of me.  I wouldn't say I hate them.  I just have a totally irrational fear of them.  I will try to transport them out of the house, but the entire time, I will be saying, "Eww.. eww.. eww!"

I was never bothered by spiders, or snakes, or ... you get the idea. I used to pick up spiders as a kid and let them crawl on my arm. I even saved a snake (non-deadly one, that is. Just a harmless snake) from my boyfriend's freaky self (he was going to kill it with a stick). I picked it up, put it in a bucket, and found a new home for him/it outside (it got in the house somehow). My boyfriend freaked out that I did that. He was scared for me, but in shock that I picked up a snake. I just shrugged, and moved on. Maybe I'm the freak  :D

I love spiders, or arachnids, as well as insects and myriapods(centipedes and millipedes). They are fascinating, mysterious and beautiful creatures that are so misunderstood! The benefits of spiders far outweigh the harm they cause to humans. They capture disease-carrying insects. Also, their silk threads are used for science and medical purposes like optical instruments.

I LOVE spiders and snails. I love all animals and insects and reptiles though. I find them absolutely fascinating. My dad always said to us as kids "Why are you scared of that little thing? It's looking up at you and you're a big, noisy, dangerous giant to it. Think of how terrified it is of you." So I stopped being scared and started helping and protecting them. I wanted them to know that I wasn't scary and dangerous.

Where I live, snails live under a big slab of concrete laid over earth, and when it rains they come out and congregate on the path. So my boyfriend and I get out our keyring LED torches and move them into the garden. Sometimes we get distracted and just watch them.

I am horrified by spiders! Too many legs, and they are jointed in the wrong place, and they move the wrong way! I grew up in a place inhabited by LARGE, hairy, wolfspiders, the widows, and others. Fortunately most Spanish spiders that I meet are tiny, but once in a while I will find myself face to face with big one--and I slam it in reverse and get as far away from it as I can! No worries about  *me* killing one, I can't get close enough!
Once some friends came for coffee and I found a large spider in the tablecloth drawer. Two seconds later I found myself with my back against the wall on the other side of the room, gibbering incoherently, bathed in sweat. They laughed at first until they realised that I simply. could. not. cross the room until someone did something. I think someone chucked it out the window, I'm not sure...I've blanked it out.
To me, Tolkien chose perfectly when he made Shelob his incarnation of evil. I've never thought of the devil as a snake (snakes are cool!)--to me, Satan is a spider!!

Spiders scare me.  When I was 10 or 11, I was bit by a spider.  When the bite finally healed, I was left with a little dimple where the bite had been.  I still have it.  So I don't mess around with spiders.  Crickets and grasshoppers freak me out, as do praying mantis.  Now snakes, I am just fascinated by them.  I think they're too cool to be afraid of them.  In fact, my sons and I were out for a walk one day and a snake crossed the road right in front of us, like a foot away.  I was mesmerized by its movement.  We have a couple of toads living in our yard as well, and they are so cool!  And out by our AC, we have a little family of lizards.  I'm always "tormenting" them, because I love to watch them and tend to get closer to them than they prefer.

The only buggy critters I reaaaaalllly don't like are cockroaches. Still, I don't like to be surprised by bugs of any sort and don't like most of them to crawl on me unless I have "invited" them to. I do like watching them, however, and either leave them alone or relocate them outside where I think most of them would prefer to be anyway.  :)

Love lizards and frogs/toads and like to admire snakes from afar. Snakes are other critters that I don't like to surprise me.

I too have an irrational fear of spiders.  When I first moved into this house, I found a 2"-3" spider in my basement (that is enormous for Michigan).  I had to call my sisters boyfriend to come put it outside because I was freaking out that bad...

On the other hand, frogs, lizards and snakes are my friends!  I love finding frogs in my garden....  Worms too, I always bury them so they don't bake in the sun.  Spiders are the only thing I can think of that I don't like, but we don't have too many unusual bugs up here in MI...

BTW, RYANVEG, I just wanted to say thank you. You were the first person to review one of my recipes, and take a picture of it as well. It really made my day. I know that was months ago but I just wanted to take the opportunity to say "thanks". I invent all my own recipes that I contribute and it was nice to know someone liked what I do. :-* :-*

When I was in college, back in the Paleozoic, I was bitten on the back of my leg (calf) by a black widow.  My leg began to swell all the way down to my ankle.  The calf turned almost black and I had purple streaks running up to my thigh.  Needless to say I ended up in the hospital.  I have been terrified of spiders ever since, though I had no problem with them before that.

who needs spiders?  Where I live, the mosquitos are as big as elephants.

I came in from outside, tripping in the door as I reached to scratch another bite and I see what I think it is a wasp on the kitchen floor.  Oh no, not a wasp  A MOSQUITO!  The body is over an inch long.  I must be very nutrious because it was ENORMOUS and I am bitten all over!

K^2 shudders...

I'm creeped out by spiders too...they just move way too fast... but I'm trying very hard not to go running and screaming away from them for fear of passing my irrational phobia on to my kids.

Little snakes are okay...I've never had the opportunity to meet a big snake, but under "control" of their owner I think I'd be okay... mice are okay... Squirrels are okay... rats are not okay... oddly enough, I'm also afraid of horses... not in a spine tingling, hair raising, wigged-out kinda way, but they're huge animals and I'm always afraid they're gonna kick or buck.

Spiders scare the bejeebers out of me too! I saw one crawling on my wall the other night before bed and since it was crawling towards me despite my pleadings with it to go the other way and out the door, I got my Sweetie to remove it and release it outdoors.

The funny thing is, he had found 3 spiders that we later found out are false wolf spiders, out back last summer. Anyway, he wanted our kids to see them so he brought them in the house in a plastic bottle. Well, the HUGE female actually ate one of the smaller ones while we were watching!! I know it's nature, but...:o My son kept saying he's glad he's not a spider! We ended up quickly releasing the other small one and kept the female. Our daughter named her Angel! We took care of her for several months, but then one day she died and I actually felt sadness. They really aren't so bad...they just have a bad rep and heck yeah, I'll still run and scream if one gets too close! ;D Currently, we have no spideys, but our daughter is raising snails. She has about a dozen and I believe she has them ALL named!

I had a dream the other night that I was surrounded with spiders the size of my palms! Did anyone else hear about the boy who heard a "crackle" in his ear, and it turned out that a couple of spiders were living in his ear? It scared the bejiberrs outta me!

I am absolutely terrified of:

1) All arachnida, including mites (I shudder every time I think about the fact that we have mites living in our eyelashes  :o)
2) Cockroaches
3) All insects in the apocrita suborder (bees, wasps, hornets, you name it!)4
4) Some crustaceans (lobsters, crayfish, horseshoe crabs - anything that arachnid-esque!)

I have no idea why I'm so afraid of these things. I mach truck could be coming at me at 70 miles an hour and I was be less frightened than if a came across a spider in my house!

A friend of mine was telling me that her mom bought her a "bug" vacuum. You suck up the critters and take them outside. Supposedly it doesn't hurt them. Does anyone know anything about this?

I've actually never posted before, but I felt the need to respond to this.  I love spiders!  I think I learned it from my mom, who always picked them up and put them outside.  Right now there are 3 spiders who have made their homes in my bathroom, and I named them - Sheila, Sally, and Esther.  I plan to leave them there, since they're not bothering me and they eat the yucky little flies that are everywhere otherwise  :)

My sister-in-law has one. It's called the BugZooka: http://www.gaiam.com/retail/product/16-0267

I used to know a woman who had a morbid fear of butterflies.  It was to the extent that I had to rescue her from a butterfly sticker (not even a realistic one) that some joker put on her computer at work.
