Allergic Dog Nightmare
Hi all, I'm coming out of lurkdom for the sake of my dog. She's been very, very, itchy ever since I found her. She's on monthly flea stuff which did not help. I then knew that food could cause itching so I put her Natures Recipe veg dog food. Still itching. So I spent the big bucks and had her allergy tested. This is where my nightmare begins...!
The tests showed she's allergic to plants, molds, fungi, bugs, and lots of food. I'm going the route of injections on the other stuff, but food is up to me.
Take a look at the attached report and you'll see my nightmare, not only is she allergic to virtually all forms of meat, but all grains and quite a few vegetables. The veg diets rely on grains, which she can't have, as do the "rare" food diets...they all have potatoes or grains or meats.
I then decided I'd just feed her what I eat with vegdog supplements. But that won't fly either as I eat lots of wheat, potatoes, corn, oats, etc., all of which are on her no-no list.
I'm clueless!! I'm still feeding her the NR veg food until I find something else and she's still itchy. anyone got any ideas?

Sorry to hear about your poor pup. I know how frustrated you must be. I have a cat who could not eat anything without vomiting it up. It was scary, he got very thin. The vet diagnosed as IBS & put him on Science Diet AD & pills. I was not satisfied with that & researched on my own. My cat is now on a Wysong raw diet and no pills and has been doing very well for almost a year. So don't lose hope.
Maybe your dog just needs to "reset her system", so to speak. I would take her off the flea meds (unless absolutely necessary) & look into some good vitamins & herbs to strengthen her immunity. Take her down to a very basic (few ingredients) home-cooked diet like lentils & carrots or cauliflower. There are books on making your own vegetarian dog food. Many foods can be toxic to dogs - so double check before giving them to her. A dog requires a much higher intake of protein than a person, so make sure she is getting enough & definitely supplement.
Mainly though, peruse the internet & you'll find tons of forums & websites geared towards this problem specifically that will be a great help to you and your pup.

Macadamians are rather toxic to dogs. In general, nuts should be avoided because the high fat content can lead to pancreatitis. Also, they present a choking hazard. Peanuts are the only nut I would give my dog as a treat in the form of peanut butter.

My guys happily eat quinoa and amaranth. Does your dog have a soy allergy too?
Much as I hate the big commercial brands, a few of the vet brands have a very low allergy formulation.
My mutt is an allergic dog, mould and a few plants and wheat, he was so scabby it was unbelievable but the injection regimen has really helped him and he now is very happy with a lovely glossy coat.

I agree with the above, make her a nice plain bland mash of lentils and quinoa and see how she does. then gradually add in stuff like carrots and cauliflower.

oh wow, my parents dog has pretty much the same condition, he's allergic to EVERYTHING! and is ALWAYS itching, so much that he has bald patches in spots. it's so sad.
my dad has tried everything, calomine lotion seems to help at times, but that just is to ease the itch. he's even been on steroid shots and they didn't help. my dad bought some spray off the internet and no good.
I'm sorry i'm not much help, but know that you're not alone! I'll tell you if we find anything that works!
I do see bison meat dog food online, but I was also wondering if locally anyone sells bison or emu meat or other exotic meat that you could feed your dog, in combination with quinoa and veggies perhaps? Has your vet given you any feeding advice at all after the test results came in?
