Grab your checkered-print table cloth, a basket, and a few fun friends because it’s National Picnic Day! Some of you may recall that Earth Day was earlier this week and before that a certain springtime chocolate-centric holiday, so it’s the perfect time to continue the festivities outdoors with a scrumptious picnic.
In 2009, when I acquired VegWeb.com from its brilliant founder, Yvette Ehler, it took me about half a second to figure out whom I wanted to manage the site. I had heard a lot about a local writer/social media whiz named Laura Beck (co-founder, Vegansaurus.com), and I knew she'd be perfect for the job. Laura and I met for lunch, instantly connected, and the rest is history. For the next five years, Laura ran VegWeb.com with her signature humor and passion for food.
When I started at VegWeb in June of 2009, I had no idea what I was in for. I mean, I knew I was working for the very best recipe site in the world, with a vibrant community, and endless possibilities for growth and engagement. But I didn't know that I would make lifelong friends, travel all over in search of amazing new food, and cook more mind-blowing dishes that you can wag a fork at. It's been a truly extraordinary journey.
There are so many reasons to love brunch––mimosas, for one; flaky pastries and fresh fruit, for another; and the sheer fact that it is the combination of two of our favorite meals: breakfast and lunch.
The first day of spring (also known as Spring Equinox) is next week on March 20, 2014. That means spring, and all its pretty flowers and fresh fruits and vegetables, is just around the corner. What better way to welcome spring than with a plate full of delicious spring rolls!
It's everyone's favorite/least favorite holiday. I can't think of a holiday that makes some people feel amazing and others feel like hiding in a corner until it's over. Actually, that's a lot of holidays, isn't it? Oh well. Whether you're stoked or scared, it only comes once a year and it'll be over before you know it! If you're totally dreading it, I propose this: Why not just make a delicious meal and celebrate love everywhere. Maybe that's slightly cheesy but it can't be a bad thing.
Thanksgiving is the best holiday of them all. It's got everything you need -- family and food. Seriously, what more could you ask for? Except maybe more pie? That's the only acceptable thing you could ask for.
Let's put on our eating pants and dive into our favorite Thanksgiving dishes.
